Don't know about the Cub 10 but on the Cub 12r, it's described as

"The CUB12R features a nifty output trick - if you look at the front panel you'll notice two input sockets, one labelled 15W, the other labelled <1W. If you plug into the 15W socket you get the full power of the amp, 15 Watts of wonderfully warm valve tone. Plug into the <1W and you get .75 of a Watt output. This allows you to drive the amplifier as hard as you like, giving you masses of power amp compression and a pleasing break up for that elusive DARK ART tone. "

Basically, you get to drive/crank it at lower levels (useful at night or when you're at home).

It has come to my attention (thanks hydro) that a Cub10 schematic is out there.  Google laney cub schematic.  First hit.  Grab it now if you intend to mod in the future... while the file is still there. :-D

Fellow Cub Clubbers,

May nakita akong for sale na 12R sa classifieds. Its specified there na medyo defective yung power output ng amp that why its being sold cheap e wala pang isang taon yun sa kanya.

Medyo napaisip tuloy ako sa reliability ng Cub series, trip na trip ko pa naman yung Cub 12R ko. He,he.

Any tips from those with lots of experience owning tube amps so as to extend the life of these kind of amps?

Laney Cub 10

Remove R5 and R6 and replace it with 250K pot for treble control
Remove R12 and replace it with 250K pot for bass control

Fender deluxe tone control mod
Change C3 (470pf) with 250pf
Change C6 (22nf) with 100nf
Change C8 (22nf) with 47nf
Change R17 (8.2K) with 6.8K

Laney Tone caps are similar to marshall JMC800. :D

I didn't mod my laney. but i've research for possible mods, this mods can be helpful.

Sir siore also share some mods.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

tone stack after V1B.  I bet tweaking a few values there will get you where you want to go.  Just download duncan's tone stack calculator for a visual objective
For headroom try lifting the cathode bypass caps, C11/C22 compare, then adjust values if needed. also try a lower input cap C4 and coupling cap C7 for a brighter input and 3rd stage, but the value is low already at 10nf and 4.7nf respectively.

Yep.  Seems from the mods you posted, someone 'did' the tonestack.  It's the familiar FMV tonestack, and probably one of the easiest things you can do for the voicing.  Also what he did there, instead of fixed resistors, he put pots.  How easy it actually is, on the actual PCB, I have yet to see.  Haven't been there after fixing my pilot lamp.

I also haven't been there since fixing my pilot lamp too. I do not want to mod my cub 10 now. one more thing, if we add tone stack to cub 10, we need a bigger chassis to have room for the TMB.
