Singles. Doubles. Triplets. Then try mo Moeller technique. Ang trick jan is practice slowly until mafeel mo na ung vibe as days pass. Practice everyday and you'll see the difference, hindi mo man mamamalayan na bumibilis na pala! Pero suggestion ko talaga is ung Moeller technique, syempre prerequisites ang singles and doubles talaga. Hope this may help.

Hey guys, baguhan lang sa forum, just wanna ask something, since this thread is already about Grip Technique.

tip nalang:stick with your sweet spot, but explore. mas matututo ka kung susubukan mo yung iba at hindi ka nakastuck sa isang grip or in your case, yung paraan ng paghawak mo.

sana may naitulong.

go watch jojo mayer's dvd (ehem legally or otherwise), it's a bible for technique. siguradong ma-iimprove mo technique mo dun, intindihin mo lang.

my opinion is that if you're hurting yourself, then there's something wrong with how you approach your technique. (italicized because i also believe that there is no right or wrong way with drumming, only bad choices and approaches)

my humble 2 cents.

as for me,nasa comfortability na siguro yun ng isang drummer kung anung technique yung gagamitin niya.. the important thing is, malinaw mong madedeliver yung drum lines mo... hindi yung puro technique eh malabo naman yung pagpalo mo,wala rin...

tips/exercises for fast single-hand 16th note hihat pattern?
« Reply #236 on: February 01, 2009, 08:35:20 PM »

oh well matagal-tagal na praktis nanaman to. :(

My left hand is always slower and i notice that this slows me down. It can't reach the pace of my right hand. what I know is that what the right can do, the left should also do. Sometimes I play some beats with my left hand playing the hi-hats(open-handed) so my left gets properly oriented with what my right  used to do the normal way.Well this is just my simple way of exercising my left hand, but I still do continuous tapping with my left as often as I can.

i learned how to do the palm down thing within a week... and i had no real drum training prior to that... i think you'll learn faster than i did.

i also read that french grip, makes you susceptible to carpal tunnel syndrome. i agree with this because i thought id wanna use the french grip (looks cooler), but i noticed that it puts more stress on my wrist rather than the more natural palm down position.

im not very fast with my blast beats ... but i can do decent speed on both my left and right (right is still faster when push comes to shove though).

@incx
what i meant was i'm not comfortable doing german grip; never was. most people use it though, i just never became comfortable with it. i wish i was though because there's more power in it as compared to french grip.

french grip might make a drummer more susceptible to carpal tunnel syndrome, but i think as long as you do it right, it won't be a factor which type of grip a person uses. imo.

besides, with the french grip, you're supposed to be using the radius ulna, and fingers most of the time, not the wrist primarily, because that's just uncomfortable.

(info came from jojo mayer's dvd btw. it's an awesome encyclopedia on technique.)

and oh, don't worry about speeding up your blastbeats. speed will come in time, with correct practice and dedication. feel is much more important. even the really fast people will tell you that. good luck dude.

RRRR RRRR RRRR RRRR LRLR LLLL LLLL LLLL LLLL

(using whatever grip you're comfortable with) (practicing with the right hand on the hihat and left on the snare).

basically 4 bars of 16ths tapos isang transitional bar na LRLR para mapunta sa kabilang hand then another 4 bars of 16ths para dun sa kabilang hand.

Tapos habang bumibilis na dyan, try to lessen the number of bars so magiging 3 bars of R, transition then 3 bars of L.. hanggang sa maging tig-isang bar na lang...

kung sa hihats tapos finger technique, try to watch how johnny rabb does it. Tapos yung finger valving technique ni jojo mayer might also work.

Nakikita ko din minsan ginagawa ni rabb na ung stick is placed on top of the hihat, tapos hawak ung stick sa gitna tapos ung head of the stick hits the hihat area farther from you and area of the hihat near you with the butt end of the stick.

Lalo na ung maple sticks (as opposed to the regular hickory).

or you could also try using one of these :-)

@phfreq
thanks for that exercise, i'll try to practice it in class/on pillows/etc. lagi na kong may dalang mas mabigat na stick ngayon para kung walang magawa sa class may speed practice ako.

pinanood ko lang yung valving technique tas umayaw na ko e. same with the push-pull. hirap talaga, kelangan talaga dedication at tiyaga e. wala ako nun pag dating sa pagaaral ng bagong techniques, kasi mas focused ako sa musicianship/groove. si dheniz nakita ko na dati mag push-pull, ang galing at ang bilis.
