How can a song in a particular CD pressing get an ISRC?  Is it the MAstering Engineer's job to provide that, or does it have something to do with copyrighting or ID-ing?

I think it's a copyright ID.

you can visit their site and ask for more info at http://www.ifpi.org/isrc/
