For me, it's Nikon. I don't know. A lot of friends have been saying that if you want quality professional pictures, get a Canon. Pro photographers (well, I only based this from my professors) use Canon. I too was a Canon user. When I borrowed my friends Nikon D5000, I instantly fell in-love with it. That's why I shifted to Nikon. Sa akin lang naman ito. I'm not saying that Nikon is the best, but Nikon satisfies what I am looking for.

both are great. on the entry level side i used to prefer nikon but i realize the only advantage now is image quality. both brands have dslrs that produce excellent IQ so IQ doesn't really matter this time and age. lol. lens compatibility matters most now (to me at least). on the "pro level" side i prefer the nikon d3s, unbelievable high ISO performance.

LF: 18-200mm nikon lens for my d40. lulz.

Hahaha! Go. I'm ok with my 18-105mm VR. Right now, I'm leaning towards getting a decent flash, Zeikos battery grip & a 50mm f1.8D.

you might want to consider the 18-105vr. it performs like the 18-200, way cheaper than 18-200 and it's just a couple of steps short of the 200mm range. i just use my feet to zoom in to 200mm  :-D :-D :-D

Kurtcobainer told me about the cheaper 18-200 Tamron. I'm getting that instead. Great reviews. HALF TEH PRICE! Too epic. CAmera GAS has become a bit more attainable thanks to Kurtcobainer. haha.

Actually Turi, you should read this one. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/dx-dream-team.htm

The 18-200mm VR  isn't a team player. It's a fat prima-donna that works best by itself.

The 18-200mm doesn't go wider than 18mm. If this is wide enough for you, then the 18-200mm is all you need instead of two zooms. (You'll still want the 35/1.8 for the dark.)

I've gotten so lazy that the 18-200mm is too heavy for me to want to carry around all day. It suits the chunky D200 and D300, but I don't shoot either of those cameras anymore.

I prefer the 18-55mm kit lens for its lighter weight. I prefer to get closer than to have to carry the 18-200mm VR.

If you carry an 18-200mm VR, carry nothing else except the 35/1.8 for the dark.

If you carry the 10-24mm, do not carry the heavy 18-200mm VR because it duplicates part of the range. If you're going to carry the 10-24mm, bring the 55-200mm VR instead of the bulkier 18-200mm VR.

The 18-200mm VR takes a 72mm filter, while all the other lenses except the 10-24mm take standard 52mm filters.

I've had this experience, when I was using Canon. I'd bring my 18-55mm IS & 55-250mm IS when I went out. Problem is, palit ako ng palit. 18-55 for wide angle & 55-250 for zoom. That's why I think they made this 18-200mm. But as for me, I'm contented with my 18-105mm VR. I'll just use foot zoom if need to get a little bit closer. Right now I'm considering getting a 50mm f1.8D for night shots & portraits. Then, pag naka-ipon pa konti probably an UWA lens. :-D

kurtcobainer, whenever i shoot concerts i change lenses on-the-fly kahit sa gitna ng performance at naghihiyawang audience; from my 55-200 to my 10-20 to my 50mm.

i dont believe in an "all-around lens" per-se, nor do i believe that a perfect one could ever be made. may ibat-ibang lente para sa ibat-ibang gamit.

True. Ganyan din nangyari sakin fom 200-250mm. Hindi na ganun ka-sharp yung pictures ko.

I find it difficult for me kasi. As much as possible gusto lang iwasan yung palit ng palit ng lens. I also believe there isn't an "all-around-lens", siguro I just want a lens na magiging comfortable ako and pwede kong maiwasan yung papalit-palit or ako nalang ang maghahanap ng magandang pwesto, hehehe.

So, if the 18-200MM sucks, what would you suggest?

Hmmm.. Sell your 18-55 and get an 18-105mm VR just like what dullfingers suggested.

Question. What do you plan on shooting? Maybe this site can help you. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikkor.htm
