Uso pa pala ngayon ang "rhythm" at "lead" guitars.
Mismo.   :-D  Laos na yung ganyang mentality.  Ang mahalaga pag dalawa kayong gitarista, respect and try not to step on each others shoes.

kahit pa rhythm guitarist ka.. edi mas patunayan mo na kaw mas magaling dun sa lead guitar nyo? not in a solo kahit dun man lang sa mga chord or a simple lick..

or pwede mo kausapin yung lead guitarist nyo na baka pwede pag aralan nyo na two kayo mag solo

I agree with the other forumites, outdated na yung "rhythm & lead guitarists" mentality. With the few bands that I've been in before, meron lang guitarist 1 & guitarist 2.

Having a 'lead & rhythm' guitarist will only build one guitarist's ego, and kill the other one's confidence. Pero para hindi naman ako OT, hindi naman degrading in any way ang rhythm guitar. Let's see the lead guitarist play without a rhythm guitarist with him.  :-P IMO, playing rhythm guitar is equally as hard as playing lead. So kung madalas rhythm ka sa band mo, but you want to play lead, edi record some stuff at home.. side project kumbaga.

Marami ang hindi na-aappreciate ang rhythm guitarist. Siguro mas gusto nila yung shredding like the speed of light. haha! But in fact malaki ang role ng rhythm guitarist sa 1 band. I love being a rhythm guitar (though I'm a lead guitarist sa church namin). Sabi ng iba madali but in fact mahirap din siya gumawa ng rhythm na hindi usual. I hope you get what I mean. Hindi lang yung tira ng tira.

rhythm? lead?

Pareho lang yan may rhythm. might as well call it guitar 1, guitar 2 and so on. Kaibahan lang siguro is possibleng nag-sosolo yun isa pero he/she isn't leading you anywhere.

Sir question lang and I need your advise for this one:

rhythm is what carries the song, but if you have two guitarists in a band, i don't understand why your bandmates will only let one of the guitarists play the lead (solo) parts. unless they think you cannot actually play lead (solo) parts especially in live performances. i've seen a lot of guitar players who can shred on their own pero nabobobo pag nasa banda na. :-)

a rhythm guitarist is as important as other members of the band. i know some good rhythm guitar players na naging bandmates ko na rin. And they are VERY good at doing their thing. magagaling sila gumawa ng strum patterns. for me kase, ibang field ang rhythm at lead. hindi sya dahil mas magaling si ganito maggitara, sya na lead. no sir.  good rhythm guitarists are good at creating grooves, mapapaindak ka talaga. they put in their accents dun sa part ng overall groove na wala msyadong nangyayari, (break ng basslines, lead lines etc.) if you heard a good rhythm guitarist na, you get what i mean..  :-D .. i could talk about rhythm guitarists all day long, pero eto lang ang time na kaya kong ibigay.

oo, sabihin nating mejo mahina sila sa lead, pero i wont trade them to a good leadista kung meron na kaming leadista.

hope this helps. peace!  :-)

Rhythm is important as well. Pwedeng walang lead. Ako, I'd take either position. It's not about masasayang ang skills/gear or what. It's all about playing, well at least in my case.. Although many times the rhythm guitarist is left out, he/she is still as important. I still feel that before you can be a good lead player, you have to be a good rhythm player.

Though it is correct.. a lot still skip on the basics and go to the advance courses without really understanding why and how they came about.. pag tuloy nag jam na, tameme lang habang nagrrhythm yung isang gitarista, sa solo lang pumapasok.. hehe..

BTT: masaya maging versatile.. hindi yung confined ka lang sa pagiging rhythm or lead.. it's good that you can do both and do them well..
there are songs na walang lead.. pero yung rhythm part niya ay parang nagllead ka na rin..  :-)

gawin mo nalang dual guitarist, lead at rythm.

John Mayer is an example of a good rhythm guitarist and a lead player at singer guitarist pa lol.

Kung puro power chords lang ang gitarista, that is indeed boring!

I agree with Studiowan.

:-D im happy with my role since we(band) are still together until now (started 2000)... ang lead guitarist naman gives me a chance to do some of his parts. doon na lang ako focus sa mga modulations or minute guitar parts sa mga cover songs..
