in your own opinion, what is better? A custom or K?

hi kimpoy, if it's a 12" cymbal then it's a splash, not a crash. :-)

i think depende sa tenga mo kung alin ang mas maganda sa dalawa. sa splashes ok sa akin ang A Custom pero sa ride parang mas ok yung Avedis line or K.. somehow i find A Custom rides medyo too bright. pero if im not mistaken, i think they were made to be more on the bright side of the sound spectrum...

Hi bro. If your using a splash to replace a crash, then malamang nga maumay ka sa tunog no matter what brand or series you use. Splashes are sound effect cymbals mostly used for little accents in a groove. Although I've seen one drummer use only a ride, hats , and a splash sa gig. But the set was mostly slow songs and acoustic if I remember it right. Hehe.

For me K customs are the best. Yung perfect blend ng traditional sound and projection.

If your concerned about volume get an 18".

I'm surprised that most of us na sanay with cast cymbals would automatically say they sound bad. In my oppinion they may not be great cymbals but good enough for the price.

The only thing i really dislike about most low/mid end (crash) sheet cymbals is you'll have to whack it pretty hard to make it sing unlike compared  sa cast na mas mabilis mag open up/ respond kahit meduim hit lang. I think this also the reason kung bakit mas mabilis din sila masira dahil parating pinapalo ng malakas para lang tumunog ng mas maganda (not necesarily mas malakas) .

@ blackhawk7a

Here's the Brand New "Promo Price" more or less for comparison para din alam mo pag may nag-offer kung mahal ba o mura:

ZBT Crash 16"..........P3,672
ZBT Crash 18"..........P4,249

ZHT Fast Crash 16"...........................P4,690
ZHT Fast Crash 18"...........................P5,460
ZHT Rock Crash 16"..........................P4,690
ZHT Rock Crash 18"..........................P5,460
ZHT Medium Thin Crash 16"..............P5,198
ZHT Medium Thin Crash 18"..............P5,460

If you want them Brand New "JBMusic" ang Authorized Dealer like pmack mentioned. A Good Place to try them out is JBMUSIC "Mega Mall Branch" . They have a Drum set for testing cymbals.

Additional comment lang.........If you look at the prices above hindi mo na rin masasabi they come cheap. So a good option if you don't mind getting second hand is looking patiently through the classifed section for great deals.

Kelan lang i recall a super great deal ng 20" Avedis Medium Ride mint condition w/free 18" China for only P4,000 which a co forumer (wax_static >congrats sayo) bought. You can't get any better deal than that.

Importante lang parati ka may hawak pambili so when the oppurtunity comes you're prepared. Kasi parang Barilan din yan pabilisan ang laban and "Just Like in any Gunfight There are No Second Place Winners Only Dead Loosers".

Lastly in case you decide to buy second hand it's very important that you interview the seller so you have an idea kung saan or pano ba ginagamit yung item nya.

GOOD LUCK SHOPPING & GOD BLESS !!! :-D

Id sugest you try them out personally before insisting na Rock Crash talaga gusto mo.

tama yung naisip mo.
sa mga cast cymbals, like sir $trayc@t said, hindi mo kailangang hatawin ng malakas para sila mag-open up.

kung medyo straight or mataas ka mag-angle ng cymbals around your kit, try mo medyo babaan ng konti or angle it more facing you. try it out baka ok rin sayo. kasi minasn nasa angle din kung bakit nagka-crack o nasisira mga cymbals.

just my 2 cents
:-)

I use both types pero para sakin (sakin lang ha) mas gusto ko yung Avedis since it has a generic  natural sound that fits all types of music. Yung A Custom kasi  may tendency mamili ng binabagayan na music sometimes becoz of it's bright transparent sound.

What's strange is that Zildjian advertises them (A Custom) as >
Quote: "Not too dark, not too bright " cymbals that are just right for modern music.

Yet most of the time they are "Even Brighter" than the Regular Avedis. Kaya the last part lang na > Quote: "cymbals that are just right for modern music". is what i agree with.

A Custom - Projects a bit cleaner, faster response, mas manipis at matinis ang tunog compared sa Avedis.

Guys!

Question:
Durability wise comparing A Custom crashes and K crashes.
I both like the sound these cymbals produce and yet they have their own characteristics. Which of the two is more advisable to use as a main crash if you are a hard hitter?

Comment na! Thanks!  :-D

Parehas lang yan durability wise they are made from the same alloy and both series have Crashes from Thin to Med thin. (A Customs up to Medium).

The key to durability is proper cymbal aplication. Do not force cymbals to produce a sound beyond its capacity. If you want to play loud then then get larger & heavier models this way you do not have to hit it beyond what is needed.

other than that, wala na ko ibang alam na paraan.

I play... so i am...

yes bro:)

very very much :)

medium thins are more durable than thins kasi nga,
manipis siya :)

so heavy cymbals are really more durable than thin ones. pero
also, thin cymbals are more flexible than the heavy ones meaning maybe they could take force and absorb it.

but also, as sir straycat says,
it also depends on how you use the cymbal :)
