REMO or Evans?
« Reply #200 on: August 03, 2007, 08:53:39 AM »
Im having difficulty choosing a batter head for my PDP 850 snare.

Right now Im using it's stock heads, sabi nila REMO din daw me gawa nun. (don't know kung totoo).

I wanted to change kahit the batter head muna.

My snare is a 13 x 4 in.  And usually sa church ko ito ginagamit, mga Hillsongs type of music. Medyo me pagka Contemporary din.

Help naman kung anong magandang heads for this kind of genre and for this snare.

REMO or EVANS?  I think coated yung kukunin ko pero which brand and what model....medyo madami kasi.

Thanks

depende sa gusto mo brader....

pero evans heads works for me. naka 14" reverse power dot center ako and very flexible sya sa iba-ibang genre.... syanga pala naka 14" snare side hazy rin ako.... kaya ang lazer regal stock wood snare nagtutunog na maganda. hehehe. i was thinking of buying a custom-made picollo c/o peeves pero dahil sa time and availability and sa tunog na rin, nagbago isip ko, bili na lang ulit ako ng coated na evans para sa future picollo ko.... hehehe

sir kung lowbudget and quality hanap mo, go for remo coated amb. very flexible din in any genre. i think 600+ sya pero 10 to 15% pa less nun sa jbmusic...so mas ok yun for me...
happy drumming!!!

yup, kung budget-wise, medyo mas mura ang REMO, pero if you want unique-ness of sound, subukan mo mag-evans....

my preference and recommendation:

Remo for Toms: i.e. Emperor clear, Pinstripe clear [batter]; Ambassador [reso]

Evans for Snare: i.e. EC with dot, ST Dry vented [batter]; Hazy 200 [reso]

I decided to merge the "All About Drumheads thread" with this "Remo vs. Evans" thread.  I hope you don't mind, bro bulog.

Read the previous posts in this thread for further ideas and discussions.  There's an open poll above regarding drumhead brand preferences.    8-)

No prob po Sir drumster, di ko po kasi napuna itong thread na ito.

Hay...I bought REMO Coated Ambassador 13 in for 580 php.

Ang hirap pala maghanap ng EVANS heads. Out of stock sa Audiophile Alimall.  Naghanap din me sa RAON shops, meron sila puro clear and nasa 650 php lang, with box pa.

Pero coated kasi hanap ko, ung G1 sana pero, dahil wa na time to search, I go with REMO na lang.

Di ko pa lang po na install...maybe later after work, try ko muna kung mas okay tunog kaysa sa stock coated head ng PDP.

Totoo po ba na PDP heads are made by REMO din????

Thanks

drumheads care & maintenance
« Reply #213 on: November 24, 2007, 03:37:23 PM »
good day sir.

is it ok to loosen the head's tension in each drum
kung medyo matagal hindi gagamitin, in short
itatago na muna. :-) or
just leave it that way na stretched yun mga heads.

thanks

If you prefer to loosen them before storing go ahead, there's nothing wrong with that; but also leaving them as is prolly won't damage it in anyway.

If you're not going to use your drum for a long time, I suggest that you detune/loosen the tension of the drumheads.  That should relieve some tension from the hoops and tension lugs.

I learned this the hard way.  There was this period of time when I didn't use my 14" Tama Starclassic snare.  I just kept it at home and left its tight batter tension.  After a couple of months, I decided to use that snare.  There I noticed that the tuning seemed weird, and I can't get the sound I want from it.  When I got home, there I discovered that my hoop got warped.  This is due to stress.  I can't believe it happened, considering that my snare is fitted with a die-cast hoop.  I had to order a new hoop for that drum.

Yep, Emperor X isa a nice option sa batter side. You get durability at the expense of overtones, which can be a good or a bad thing. Snare-side... stick to thin heads like Remo Snareside, Diplomat.. etc.

Pinstripes naman, it's good for indoor use or outdoor use OR outdoor use WITH close-miking. Good low sound, and the durability is there. Large venues are a no-no though, since to the audience, you'll get a dead sound.
