The Barber Shop (barber electronics users)
« on: June 16, 2010, 04:25:09 PM »
for all barber electronics users po: PASOK!  :-D

i tried to search for a thread with barber users, kaso walang hits eh. kaya, gawa na lang ako ng thread. oh, well, pa share lang sana ng ideas on his peds. problems din kasi kung through YT kasi, they have these great amps kaya di maxado ma showcase yung tunog ng pedal.

btw, got a small fry, i have my settings. just want to try out those who have their settings too, including the trimpots.

thanks...

A Barber thread! Nice!

Big fan here. I have a couple of his pedals. Both of them are the only dirt pedals I use.

I have a Small Fry that is almost always on.
Volume set slightly above unity.
Tone set slightly thicker than my clean tone.
Gain at about 9-10 o'clock where it gives me just enough hair and grit while keeping chords ringing nice and clear. Cleans up well with the guitars volume knob too.
Dynamics set to noon. Sometimes 2-3 o'clock if I want a smoother tone.
Toggle on the middle position.
Trim pots were set to match my Tele. I dont mess with them that much. Drives me crazy. 4 knobs + 4 trim pots and 3 way toggle! Hehe.
Love this pedal. This is the only pedal I know I will always keep.

I also have a Direct Drive that I use for heavier tunes.
Volume set slightly above unity.
Tone set anywhere between 10-12 o'clock.
Gain set anywhere between 12-2 o'clock.
Trim pots were also set for a nice balance between bass response and presence.
Great pedal as well.

Boutique quality at a very affordable price point. Highly recommended.

Good thread.. it's Barber users, right? not Barber owners?.. hehe.. my brother owns a Dirty Bomb.. but i've used it as well..

all i can say is, it doesn't sound good when your pickups have a low output.. to me, it reacts better with high ouput pickups.. i didn't like it before kasi mababa output ng pup ko.. but when i switched to a higher output, biglang nagandahan ako sa dirty bomb.. lumabas yung pagiging evil niya..

i like it.. hehe.. evil.. dark.. gainy.. it's good.. it's dirty, but not muddy..  :-)

I have an LTD and a Direct Drive

Those aren't my favorite settings though.  These are:

LTD:
Volume:  12 o' clock
Tone:  1 o' clock
Drive:  between 10 and 11 o' clock
Bass:  almost at 10 o' clock
Presence: 1 o' clock
Opamp:  OPA2134

Direct Drive:
Volume:  2 o' clock
Tone:  between 2 and 3 o' clock in the down position
Drive:  between 9 and 10 o' clock
Bass: almost 8 o' clock
Presence: 2 o' clock
Opamp:  OPA2604

I don't have any complaints about the LTD.  The Direct Drive, on the other hand, reminds me so much of a Tube Screamer as far as tonal shape that I particularly do not like but the Direct Drive has tons of sustain and really sings that I'm willing to overlook the tonal shape that I do not like.   :-D

Barber Dirty Bomb user here, for both my RG and Tele. I really love that bass/mid heavy distortion that the DB produces.  :-)

For the Dirty Bomb, here are my settings:
Bass: 4:30
Internal Bass: 3:00
Treble: 2:00
Gain: 4:00
Volume: 12:00
Toggle: Center or Right (Boosted mids or scooped mids)

I'm also thinking of either getting a Direct Drive SS or an HBE Power Screamer.. Still torn... esep esep.

ayus.. oo, share ko lang din settings ko.. btw, start ng trimpots, hahaha. it took me about a day to get my precise tone that i hear in my head.. and i think, it took away almost 100 pounds of my body fat sa kaka-tweak then listen, kasi tumutulo na yung pawis ko habang nag-da-dial. ehehehe..

volume-set 12 o'clock
tone-set to around 9 or 10 o'clock
dynamics-set to 5 o'clock
burn-set to around 9 or 10 o'clock

yung toggle switch, depending din sa tone that i want, kasi nga dun nga fi-nit ko sa trimpots. but, its always in the middle. ehehehe.. forgot to mention, i love the paint ng fry.. choy masyado!
Good thread.. it's Barber users, right? not Barber owners?..

i suppose its for both, owners and users.. hehehe.. kahit negative yung comment sa barber, pasok pa rin..subjective naman tayo dito sa PM. ayus!

hmmm, does the tone press really enhances all of barbers dirt peds?  :?

the Direct Drive ended my GAS for ODs..

Me too. Other ODs just sounded too artificial for me, after hearing the DD.

Gonna be an owner by end of June/early July of the Dirty Bomb. Let's see if it can dethrone the Hughes and Kettner Warp Factor (which temporarily dethroned the Wampler Triple Wreck off my board).

Dirty Bomb users, sound clip naman! Heard Cayle's na. Any other users who want to contribute? :)

Perhaps the best clip of the Dirty Bomb I heard: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=630564&songID=7599004
This guy did a clip of the Toneczar Openhaus too before but I think he removed it. The DB sounded better at that time.

Totally different sound. The Warp Factor gives a really colored and saturated sound, while the Dirty Bomb is just heaps of plain transparent dirt.

Surely different sounds. Based from what I'm hearing in the clips though, the DB is not so transparent as to change its essential voice when plugged through diff. amps. Just my ears and from the clips I heard.

I would say the common ground of the Warp Factor and Dirty Bomb are the dark voicing they have. The DB apparently is just more bass heavy.

I'd be able to do the real comparison once my DB arrives.

And yes, I'm still digging the Warp Factor. Closest pedal to my Mesa F-30's dirty channel that I've heard.

Drivemaster FTMFW!

Haha  OT:  Glad you like it.   :-)  I've had that since 1991.  Still all-stock and 100% functional.  Bought it brandnew at PP Park Sq. along with a BluesBreaker and a ShredMaster for less than Php3K each, would you believe?  I seriously regret having given away the BluesBreaker after a couple of months but I wanted heavier dirt then.

Man!  This thread is making me want a Small Fry or a DB!!!
