Para sa akin, malagkit na malanding solo/licks > fast bubbling notes. Ika ni bryanarzaga, "I'm not a shredder, I just happen to fumble on the fretboard."  :-D

When I was in highschool shredding was everything to me, I wanna be kirk hammett and paul gilbert. So playing fast was the first thing I mastered..Now being 30 looking back, how I wished I've mastered blues instead of playing fast. Mas maganda pala yung soulful at masarap ka magitara kaysa yung puro bilis lang. Take a look at John Mayer for example when he does his guitar solos its like his guitar sings to his emotion. So now thats what im mastering, to be able to play my guitar na masarap at hindi mabilis na parang yun na ang last na tugtog mo eh may gig pa naman bukas..hehehe=)

Some musicians may become a Yngwie Malmsteen, others maybe will become a humble Paul Gilbert.

bakit parang na sstereotype ang mga shredders? na wala silang feelings sa pag gigitara, pabilisan lang, blah blah blah, and I think naman a true shredder knows his/her limitations sa pag sshred.  ps: hindi din ako shredder hihi, it's just. . .

im not saying wala sorry di ko ata napaliwanag ng maayos, is just so happened that most shredders pag di tama ang placing they lack soul in their playing..syempre iba sina paul gilbert aral yung mga yun at lumaki sila ng tamang placing sa music. the problem is may mga bata ngayonh na ang galing mag shred pero pag pinatugtog mo ng chords ayun kaboom! di magawa..I hope im making sense here na mas maganda matutunan mo muna mga basics and yung tamang placing ng pagaaral which is wala ako nun that time :-D

well, di po ikaw yung exact na sinasabihan ni kuya haha!, majority lang po ng tao dito. for me kasi ammm a shredder does not  ONLY mean na magaling akong mag sweep, mag legato ng sobrang bilis, mabilis ako mag alternate picking, econo and etc,  its more on I have an additional skill in playing guitar and that is shredding, wag muna nating isama sa usapan yung mga bata na puro shred lang ang alam gawin sa buhay, kasi, sa ngayon HINDI pa sila musikero, more on entertainer lang, kasi naman diba hindi porket may hawak tayong instrumento or kumakanta na eh musikero na tayo, hindi ko rin naman sinasabing dapat eh may license tayo to be a musician. its just . . .

i love to shred before. specially pag mga tipong pasikat or jaming jaming. but when i gained more knowledge in music, i realized that there is more to guitar playing than just speed. shredding ain't bad, it does fit some songs though not all of the songs.
it's okay to learn how shred but most importantly learn how to play with the band.
May God be all the GLORY.

It was a blessing that I learned from the ground up because the music I was listening have tasty guitar parts be it rhythm or lead. Although I don't shred, I can play some mean licks - you know a little Van Halen, a little Steve Vai, a little Joe Satriani etc...

I started out playing Beatles tunes and graduated from there. Because if your music has no foundation, it will falter.

The problem with a lot of kids today is that they treat guitar playing as a sport - a very very very sure sign of immaturity.

+1 sa highlighted! Guitar playing should be full of passion and emotion. Shred man o hindi.

This is so true man, being a musician is like being an artist and being an artist you should express your emotions and soul through your craft. Thus as guitarists through our guitar=) regardless of genre and skill=)

Hand raised! :-D

I never really did learn to shred and I don't think I want to [yet], even though I think it's awesome when I dish out all my heavy stuff in the looooong nights of studying to the wee hours of the morning (and when I'm in the mood for a lil' KsE). But when it comes to my personal guitar playing, for me shredding never let's me say the things which lyrics can't say. Pero baka kung talagang magustuhan kong matuto mag-shred (or if my life depends on it), perhaps I'd learn after all. :-)
