Funeral convoys, driving school cars banned on major roads

MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila roads might soon be off limits to student drivers and funeral convoys.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now reviewing ordinances and traffic regulations to stop driving schools and funeral parlors from passing through major Metro Manila roads.

MMDA chairman Thomas Orbos said student drivers and funeral convoys have both contributed to the worsening traffic condition in Metro Manila.

Orbos said there is no need for a long funeral convoy to show people’s love for their departed ones.

He said student drivers and instructors would be cited and issued tickets for traffic obstruction.

He said the MMDA would recommend stiffer measures and ordinances to deal with driving schools and funeral firms that would not comply.

Professional drivers to undergo mandatory exam

To keep roads safe, professional drivers or drivers of public utility vehicles (PUV) – including those employed by companies – will have to undergo mandatory qualifying examinations.

The requirement will be a key provision in the proposed Traffic Crisis Act and the possible grant by the House committee on transportation of emergency powers to President Duterte.

Reps. Gus Tambunting, Alfred Vargas and Winnie Castelo and House Deputy Speaker Raneo Abu said it’s time for the government to address the problems brought about by unqualified and abusive PUV drivers.

Accidents and traffic congestion are mostly caused by undisciplined drivers.

Under the proposed setup, professional drivers will have to undergo mandatory written and practical examinations for free.

Gatchalian wants to ban noisy vehicles

MANILA, Philippines— Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has proposed to ban cars and motorcycles with modified mufflers or sound boosters, citing the harmful effects of noise pollution to health and the distraction it could cause other motorists on top of the already stressful heavy traffic in metropolitan areas.
Through Senate BIll No. 1195, Gatchalian aims to control the noise on the road through banning vehicles that emit sounds of more than 70 decibels, a noise level within the safety threshold per the World Health Organization (WHO).
Cars and motorbikes with modified mufflers or sound boosters are popular among riders who like to simulate the sound of race vehicles.

Matic yung binebenta. Babae owner. Malinis in and out. Around 74k mileage.

I agree, naka AT din ako kaya lagi nakahanda ang jump-cables ko sa trunk, nakahanda rin lahat ng number ng flatbed-tow trucks dahil di rin pwede hilahin ng towtruck ang matic.. kailangan nakakarga.

wala ka na nga lang problema sa traffic at uphill.. kaso di mo kuntrolado ang RPM mo minsan kulang pa nagsishift na, parati kang iwan sa convoy haha

I agree, naka AT din ako kaya lagi nakahanda ang jump-cables ko sa trunk, nakahanda rin lahat ng number ng flatbed-tow trucks dahil di rin pwede hilahin ng towtruck ang matic.. kailangan nakakarga.

ok lang siguro, sya naman mag drive eh. siguro ako pag long drive o weekends. pero id rather commute pag work days o kaya mag motor.
