who knows a lot on pickup splitting into series/parallel?
« on: July 22, 2006, 09:46:15 PM »
i have a prs with 3-way toggle, pero gusto ko yung tone nang may 5-way rotary selector sa position 7 & 8, na series at parallel.
pero hindi ko gusto yung rotary selector..

anyone knows or have tried to do this on a 3-way toggle?

salamat po!

i wired my guitar for series/parallel switching.

use push-pull pots or install additional toggle switches.

i'd only readily do this mod on guitars with high-output humbuckers, though.

i already have a push-pull pot in my tone control..stock sha its to split both humbuckers. it also has  the stock pickups which is Dragon II's i think pretty decent yung output nya..its 3rd highest output PRS makes..

so will my stock push-pull do the job? any ideas about it?

yup. i used to have that same wiring before i modded it again.

a single push-pull pot can handle coil-splitting for two pickups. but for series/parallel switching, you'll need one pot for each pickup. otherwise, you can only wire one pickup or switch between series and parallel at the middle position (when both pickups are on).

this will be easier to understand than the articles from guitarnuts.

okai..there was a lot of those diagrams...cant gulp em' all yet... :D

here's the schematics that is really intended for a 5-way rotary switch.

http://www.prsguitars.com/csc/schematics/5wayrotary95%2B.gif

but ang gusto ko lang yung #3 and 4 or position 8 & 7 if it can be done with my current set-up....but if not, position 7 would be fine...eto yung description ng prs sa position 8 & 7 sa output..

Position 8: Series single coils – Warm version of the "in between the treble and middle pickups"
Position 7: Parallel single coils – Crisp version of the "in between the treble and middle pickups"

this is what i have right now, (if ever this is helpful)

ok.... if i understand correctly, you won't need a second push-pull pot.

refer to the link i previously posted and check out the diagram on the right side of the 7th row, the one just above the rotary switch diagram. i think that's the one you want.
