i started playing at church. i just listen to music - a lot! i had no formal drum lessons.. but i had a mentor, he was a keyboardist.. it was good because he would check on me, and comment whether he liked our jam or not - i learned to put the music first, rather than learning all the chops..
then, i learned to read notes. reading notes helped me a lot in learning new beats. and now, i'm teaching in yamaha school of music cebu city :)

I started sa air drums. Tinuruan ako ng pinsan ko where's the snare, h-hat, toms, ride. hehe. I was a guitarist sa band tapos hindi pala marunong magdrums yung kinuha naming drummer so ako nagdrums. I was surprised na marunong na ako. Malaki ang naitutulong ang air drums. :)

Then I experienced being able to play with a band and really fell in love with the craft.
I saved up for a kit which I got a little over a year ago.  Now I practice the rudiments
and play along with my iPod.  Regrettably though, I still cant find extra budget for a good
metronome which I hear I really should have. Click tracks nalang muna.

A "good" metronome is about P500-P700 at raon...
It costs more on music stores at malls...

i started playing drums since 2003... natuto lang ako through air drumming. madalas akong mukang sira sa sala while listening to my favorite songs tapos sinasabayan ko lng ng nakapikit hahaha kaya nung 1st time kong umupo sa trono eh parang... basta! 2006 since i got my 1st kit. almost 2 months narin simula nung 1st gig namin pero hanggang ngayon pag may event nahahaluan parin ng kaba at hiya ung excitement. kahit perfect ko na sa rehersal pag dating sa actual event eh sumasabit parin.

Ngayon, Set-up ng broken office chair as a drum pad...
In front of my bed, with a metronome beside my laptop...
Ready yung Media Player w/ line-up on the playlist...
Then pasada ng 100 counts of quads in 100bpm...
1st set of 100 using a 2b drumstick...
Then switching to a 5a for anothe 100 counts...
God is the mighty "RAK" of my salvation "EN" he want's me to "ROL" forward & follow him...

I started because my dad was a drummer.
i wanted to be a guitarist.
after awhile i just sat down and things fell into their natural balance. =]

i practice 28 rudiments on a pad everyday and once a week on the set.
the just use the stickings and see what sounds good.

for independence i just practice simple polyrhythms, then i just practice playing 32nds at around 120
and 16ths with one hand and foot alternating. then put it all together.

Sadly, mine is not an iPhone. Just an old school iPod. Raon is also a little too far from QC as I dont get around much.

what makes a metronome "good" by the way?

a metronome is good because it would be what most drummers would sound like if you took the audio from any song and only listened to the hi-hats. or ride/crash or whatever is keeping time.

it also helps in pushing.pulling the pocket. if you don't have one get one. it'll automatically make you better just by having it. ;]

it was a weird start for me. natuto akong mag-drums by means of air drumming. tapos minemorize ko 'yung mga tunog ng mga parts ng isang drumset. nakahawak na lang ako ng real drumset when i was in 3rd yr highschool.

Guitars talaga interest ko at first..
kaso nag transfer ako ng school nung high school pa ako, and tried to form a band..
un nga lang, 4 kaming gitarista at walang drummer, ayun pinilit nila ako mag-drums and started studying the whole Nevermind album ng Nirvana using pillows at hanger as sticks hehehe

Thanks to Dave Grohl  :-D

dun sa sofa using my kawayan home made drum sticks hehe.
during 4th year HS....at dun na ako nagsimulang nagsikap paunti unti sa drums...una sariling sikap,

at siyempre importante, sipag at tiyaga

optionals:  videos (minsan masmadaling matutuhan pag pinanunood kesa pinakikinggan)
