bringing a snare on gigs
« Reply #275 on: July 01, 2013, 11:41:28 PM »
what are your thoughts/ experiences on this?

siempre depende pa rin sa stiwasyon pero most bars (excluding high end ones like 19 east :p) have dead sounding drums and sometimes the snare is your only hope to at least bring justice to your music. or kahit maayos man ang snare ng bar, eh sobrang abused na nung skin (i had one bad experience na yung snare ay literal na tunog karton dahil tad tad ng packing tape yung head)

so dito pumapasok ang tanong, kung may decent snare ka (or any snare na maayos ang tunog kahit sabihin nating fernando pero pinalitan mo ng heads, snare wires, etc.), is it worth the extra weight  and hassle (specially for commuters like me) to bring one on gigs?

salamat sa mga magshashare  :-D

Don't take chances. If you have your own gear, bring ALL OF THEM with you.

sir, just think of it this way, if your bandmates can bring their guitars (and sometimes even a keyboard) which are bulkier and harder to lug around than a snare, then i guess bringing your snare will do you good, lagay mo lang sa matinong bag  :-D

sticks (malamang)
cymbals (depends on the location, pag lower end bars must ito)
snare
pedal

i usually bring with me a lot of gears.. for me, must talaga yung stix, pedal at drumkey.. it's like bringing a pick, cable and tuner if gitarista.. nag dadala din ako ng cymbals, snare, 1 cymbal stand, clamp cymbal stand, at drum throne na rin.. mas ok if may sound check before the gig para alam mo ano yung mga idagdag sa drumkit o dapat ichange pag set nyo na  :-D

sometimes bringing extra gears like hihat clutch, cymbal sleeves, top/bottom felt, duct tape, water jug, extra shirt at towel nakaka help din..  :)
for my reference: yearling, rubbershoes, chadrhix

ako may dalawang clutch na! may gig ako sa craft bar,may dalawa silang hi hat stand dun, isang generic at isang pearl na kasama ng vision series, yung clutch from tama na galing road pro e too small for the pearl but too big for the generic one,it made me loose my gig

so invest to a gibraltar quick release clutch,it might be expensive but the most satisying thing i bought recently.

I also bring extra felts, nylon tubing to protect my cymbals.

hehehe, pag gagamit ka ng ibang stands tas may dala kng cymbals, it's always a good thing to bring felts and sleeves to protect your own cymbal.  :)

update lng: may gig kami kahapon sa isang bar, the drumkit was rented and the problem was ang liit ng carpet na ginamit sa kit, yun tuloy nahirapan akong mag control sa slave pedal ng DP... buti nlng may dalang zip ties yung gitarista namin so ginamit ko yun para maikabit ko yung slave pedal sa hihat pedal para di gagalaw yung slave pedal... so update ko sa gears ko zip ties at cutter hahaha just in case lng..

for my reference: yearling, rubbershoes, chadrhix

Sir, question lang. Will that clutch fit in any size of hi-hat pull rod (6mm and 8mm)?
Yan kasi concern ko. Drop clutch kasi gamit ko ngayon eh na hahassle ako kasi magkahiwalay pa assembly kapag drop clutch. Kaya choices ko eh yang super hi-hat clutch, pro hi-hat clutch, o kaya yung pearl super grip clutch. Any thoughts?

OT but since nag ask ka this is my review... so far sa na try ko na hihat stands it fits naman lahat, from generic drums to pearl ones, gretsch, dw, yamaha, sonor... wala pa naman akong naging prob sa clutch.. unless siguro may super generic na stands na sobrang taba talaga ng rod.. it fits sa 8mm na rod and sa 6mm... ang cons lng dito is yung stock nyang felt, after several months of using kasi like any other felts for hihat nasisira eh, but it took me naman 9months before i changed the felt yung sa bottom lng.. maybe replacing it with rubber ok din but mas gusto ko yung felt eh so far after having this clutch for 4 years na twice ko pa lng pinalitan yung felt.. may memory lock yung bottom so di nalalaglag yung hihat.. yung grip nya ok talaga, so far wala pa talaga ako naging problem sa performance.. i think i bought this clutch for 500 pesos but i don't know nag mahal na siguro ito since i bought this 4 years ago pa eh.. but if you have the money you can invest nman sa pearl super grip, idk the price but research lng about it sa pearl hardware threads dito sa PM, ok naman yun siguro  :-D

thanx admin sa pa OT..

Help naman po. Any idea
« Reply #290 on: August 10, 2013, 02:12:57 PM »
Malayo po kasi bahay ko, Montalban. Pag may gig kami, diko alam san ko iiwan yung cymbals, pedal, stand ko. Hahaha. Problema ko talaga to e. Help! :)

Minimize your cymbals to 13"Hats, 15"Crash, 18"Ride and trusted pedal and stick. Goodluck

i assign mo sa vocalist, guitarist at bassist yung ibang equipment mo. if your band knows your situation, they would help .... if you dont trust them enough to let them safe keep your equipment, better not bring any and just play whatever lol most drummers i know are like that.

your band is lucky to have a drummer like you who actually owns and brings gear.

Then minsan 2 to 4 songs lang kayo. Madalas talaga naglalaban ang practicality at convenience vs. bringing my own drum sound (at least some of them) and character sa gig e. And as always, nagdadala pa din ako ng gear. I guess tiis lang talaga sa pagbubuhat to bring justice to my drumming.
