Re: Drummers' Practice Routines
« Reply #225 on: February 11, 2009, 12:41:34 AM »
I seldom take a seat and get real practice these days ever since I got my job.

Pero.... To be honest I know I am practicing everyday..
At a concious thought, for the people around me, who know me, and who see me, they see that I am always at that level of practice they haven't seen before.
Desk, Dining table, Lap, Floor, all that..

Dati ang alam ko lang basics and all of course, now that I've seen and learned rudiments from paradiddles to double paradiddles to triple paradiddles, single, double, triple, quadruple strokes everything name it.. With or without sticks, I can't seem to stop myself from drumming.. Exept when Im working/ sleeping/ doing whatother activities of course.  :|
i have a similar situation now. medyo mas mabigat ang school work kaya i only get to sit down in front of the kit and play during saturdays and sundays. (kaya babawi ako dito sa pamamagitan ng matagal na practice. time just flies now because i miss playing so much.)

kaya i always bring along a pair of sticks para pag class discussion and/or break, i make it a habit to practice my rudiments/exercises or some speed exercises. sometimes when i'm seated and there's not alot of people around, i sneak in grooves like half-time shuffles, some independence crap i can think about, etc. pero favorite ko talaga half-time shuffle.

dammit i really need a strap-on practice pad. my legs are full of bruises already (2 big almost-black ones on each side)

Relaxing Arm Muscles before playing
« Reply #226 on: July 08, 2011, 04:04:29 AM »
How do you guys relax your arms bago tumugtog sa stage? may naka experience na ba dito na sa gig biglang kinabahan tapos yung pakiramdam na parang naninigas yung braso at parang hirap mag grip ng sticks ? paano niyo kinokontrol muscles at ni rerelax ulit ?

naka experience nako neto... walang warm up at stretching as in biglaan. nanigas/crumps ang left arm ko at left leg. nag stretch out lang ako habang pumapalo. steady lang ang beat gamit ang right hand, then from time to time  stretch ulet. masakit pero mas nakakahiya na hihinto ang banda dahil nag crumps ka.

I don't know about you guys pero un nervous factor, halos konti na lang sakin kasi since 7 years old p lang ako eh kung saan-saan na nakakatugtog. haha!  14 pa lang ngaun at last year lang talaga ako naging relaxed na talaga na parang wala na lang. So ang masasabi ko lang about sa nervous na yan, just keep on being bulgar! :))

and by the way, I always have a gatorade. Practice o gig man  :-D Asthmatic eh. pero I go to the gym na rin  8-)

huling Naramdaman ko ang kaba sa tugtugan nung high school and that was a decade and a half ago. Pero bigla nalang nawala as the years went by. So kahit di kabisado ang tugtog di na kinakabahan, pero isa lang ang feeling ko nagayos sa "kaba-kaba" factor ko, practice and good intuition about the music you're playing and the musicians with you. Intuitive playing (senyasan, marunong humula kung san papunta yung tugtugan and prepared licks and chops) can make unlearned music sound like pro.... But to have that kind of skill means a lot of stick practice, gigs (Jam or Proper Gig), imagination, and a lot of listening that you can only get from years of training and experience... Keep the sticks hot in your hand mga bros! ;)

I feel more nervous in a studio setting than live. Simply put one mistake in the studio means I'd have to start over.
At least kung live kung magkamali man pwedeng ibawi sabay tuloy. Tsaka hindi masyadong pansin pag live.

kumain ng saging para di macramps.. no joke.. for practice.. singing the drumbeat helps your awareness in the things you play. atleast makapad everyday from 30 mins to an hour plus exercise(pati paglinis ng bahay tulad ng lampaso helps you in stretching, nakapaglinis ka pa) :-D

:-D Jogging and stretching at home before going to a gig (for 10 minutes)..  :-P Helps you limber your feet, loosen your joints and get a lot of air for stamina for the night's gig.

yup, ako din I feel na importante yung kinakabahan ka, kasi most of the time I play best when I'm pressured, and kaba means I'm still normal and not overconfident. mas gusto ko na ung kinakabahan kaysa walang nararamdaman.
