Thanks for the kind words sir! yeah, that's my band and that's me playing the burnt strat and wearing the same pink floyd shirt you have, haha! i feel honored that i'm talking to one of the pinoy rock legend's friends. Big bikes and buffets are awesome, but with a gorgeous strat like yours (dayum, that distressed neck finish is sexy!) malamang naghihintay lang yan pahiyawin niyo uli! it'd be awesome if you could share us some rockin' moments  

I've only met pepe smith personally twice. once was back in '06. he played with jlc with the late great dondi ledesma and kat agarrado dun sa 19east. I was 14 then and that's when he signed that guitar. grabe yung presence and charisma niya, talagang para kang hinahatak!
and yeah, ibang klase talaga si jun lopito! 1st time i saw him live he was playing this real beat up red strat and it sounded phenomenal, pati yung work nila with pepe and dondi dun sa "idiosyncracies" na album. pero kung local guitar heroes na lang din ang paguusapan eh resty fabunan is the one to beat for me, hehe. kaya ako napasindi ng gitara      

oh yea btw, "Maggot Brain" is actually a guitar instrumental by Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic and also the song we were trying to play dun sa video, haha. You might want to check him out, he's a real nice but underrated guitarist!

jun lopito "endorsed" RJ guitars before, markado parin yung tono nya. same thing goes w/ my buddy Perf. kahit ano pahawak mo sa kanila, andun parin yng character nila.  that you can't take away fm a seasoned musician. bata kapa bro, pero yng passion mo sa musika andun na. just keep it up. kahit anong mangyari, follow your heart & keep that passion burning...

btw, buhay pa rin yung red 60s strat ni Tolupits. nagamit ko rin yun several times. the mojo is electrifying
naka jam ko din si Dondi before, ( he was using a fretless RJ bass gtr ). sobrang rapsa ng groove ni Dondi. kahit maghapon ang solohan, bigay na bigay...we all used to hang out in this house @ White Plains, over looking Marikina valley...  party all night w/ booze, hawt gurls, ganja & Rakenrowl till there's no tomorrow. ain't nothing like hangin' out & jamming w/ the Pinoy Rock pioneers, not to mention the Jazz/Rock/Fusion gurus... Talo mo pa nag aral sa Berklee College of Music or GIT. ibang experience yung nakasama mo sila sa jamming, recording, gigs @ kung ano anong raket at kalokohan ( Swinging ) hehehe... Sex, Drugs, Alcohol, Rock & Roll.   I'm not saying that it's right to do that kinda thing. Nor do I recommend it. I wuz young then, renegade & a crazy ass mofo... I have boys who are teenagers now. both have bands ( Prog, Metal ), but occasionally do acoustic/pop set for weddings, debuts & parties ( malakas rumaket mga yun )... minsan umi-inom din, pero hangang dun lang ( I hope ) si Hendrix (yng isang anak ko) killer ng mga koreana  sabi ko, ayoko pa magka - apo. Tapusin muna kolehiyo, make a decent/honest living,  then they can start their own family when they're established na.

btw, resty fabunan is just awesome. we used to watch him ( & get mesmerized ) at Gapo ( during the 80s ). there was this reunion gig of Pinoy Rock Icons @ Araneta a few months back. my kumpadre, Noel Mendez sessioned for some bands there... sayang di ako nakapunta...

jimi, that wasnt me. it was some troll who made a different account 'grasyap'. and unlike him, i dont go hiding anywhere behind new accounts to post my opinion in this forum, considering ive met and dealt with many of the old time forumers and know where i live.

whatever you intend to do with your strat, whatever makes you happy, go with it. as for me, i'm not a fan of sunburst and i'm planning on having my "Maria" Greco (SE-500S) repainted to a solid color. seafoam green perhaps?  so what i did was instead of having the paint stripped in one go, i decided to do it myself. inch by inch. in my own pace. using anything that can take the paint off the body. "depende sa trip", ika nga. peace!

( but only to the wifey ) sometimes, may "afternoon delight" pa nga eh, or midnight snack. & that keeps me healthy. selecting the right (or wrong) areas to remove the paint could make or break a relic project. yours looks like they are in the right place but perhaps a little finesse on the relicing but still, plausible. that some drunk or drugged punk rocking dude dragged by the neck all the way home

thank you so much sir! i'm not a good guitar player and this fernando is no suhr, but i have nothing else to do but play on haha. oh man, hearing you talk about playing and hanging out with all those legends makes me so envious. all those talented people and great music surrounding you, not to mention all the drugs and girls - now that's rock and roll. too bad the present music scene isn't what it used to be. ngayon bihira na lang ang girls, and drugs are hard to come by (except for the sacred herb  ) - rakenrowl na lang talaga, or maybe i just don't know where to look!
it's nice to know you support your sons in their musical endeavors. nagagamit din ba nila yung relic niyo?   maybe one day we could set up a jam session at freedom bar or somewhere. that'd be fun  

btw, speaking of your relic - i don't see why anyone would doubt it's authenticity. no, i'm not a guitar expert and i havent been around long enough to age some guitars myself, but when i saw the wear on the neck of the guitar i'm sure that explains all of those negative spaces in the nitrocellulose paint job. plus hanging out with the likes of jun lopito must've really done it relics really have this certain charm. it's interesting to take note that most of the local and foreign guitar heroes wielded one at some point of their lives.

It wasn't intentionally reliced as you keep on saying. that dark spot where you rest your arm while playing was all due to acidic perspiration. I did some sanding on the back part of the guitar only bcoz liquid ( beer & hot papaitan soup ) was accidentally poured on it at one drinking spree several years back. also, na-ulanan din yun sa isang outdoor wedding gig...  i also sanded the edges bcoz I didn't want it to have the SRV look.

however, a nice rule to follow here in this forum (and for any other forum) is that we musnt take things personally.

im not attacking anyone. not jimi or anyone else. but the thread is about RELIC guitars. and although this is not an exact science and i definitely do not have the monopoly of the knowledge regarding the subject, i do have my opinion about the matter.

by him, posting his guitar on this thread, makes it an open target for criticism or admiration. lets get this straight. i give the guitar all the props for the tons of mojo it has for being a vintage piece, and a very utilized one for that matter.

however, im addressing those things he had done to the guitar the sort of 'ruined' its true relic look - thus making it a bad example for a good relic or relic copy. and thats within the bounds of what the thread is all about.

whats to be so upset about that to have someone start making comments like if i was abused as a kid? whos out of line?

since this is a forum, its inevitable that people will have different opinions on certain matters. and given that, we all should learn to agree on disagreeing and be cool with it. if you feel its like a debate or a contest on who is right or wrong then you are missing out on what a forum is about. if people say they hate the sound of the pickups you so love and rave about, then thats them. if people say they dont like the way your luthier friend does this certain job, then by all means let them rant about it in the bounds of a factual and clean discussion, without the cheap shots and personal attacks. that just ruins the show.

although i agree with you that it shouldnt be a place to quarrel but it definitely isnt a place where everyone agrees perfectly with everyone and each one only has good words to say. it is not a place for people who would easily be offended when their stuff is put under scrutiny coz it was their choice to let it out there. however, you should agree with me when i say that this is not a place to call names or make judgmental, irrelevant personal attacks just because they cannot take what other has to say about their stuff. tama ba ako?

i agree naman bro. peaceful coexistence is the key.

however, a nice rule to follow here in this forum (and for any other forum) is that we musnt take things personally.

im not attacking anyone. not jimi or anyone else. but the thread is about RELIC guitars. and although this is not an exact science and i definitely do not have the monopoly of the knowledge regarding the subject, i do have my opinion about the matter.

by him, posting his guitar on this thread, makes it an open target for criticism or admiration. lets get this straight. i give the guitar all the props for the tons of mojo it has for being a vintage piece, and a very utilized one for that matter.

however, im addressing those things he had done to the guitar the sort of 'ruined' its true relic look - thus making it a bad example for a good relic or relic copy. and thats within the bounds of what the thread is all about.

whats to be so upset about that to have someone start making comments like if i was abused as a kid? whos out of line?
