Gibraltar tatak.. ayos naman yung tunog.. punchy paren.. compare to our 22" bass drum.. mas solid yung tunog na "tig" and a little woofing low end.. it has it's limit though.. malakas siya tumunog.. pero once natabunan na siya ng high frequencies, the woof is not that obvious nah..  pero fat punch niya, andun paren.. (hindi naka mic) tamang tama lang sa ensemble.. hehehe..

cheers!!!

great idea!

astig yan  :-D

gud day sir.
ok ba yun converted Floor Tom to Bass Drum pang acoustic? I'm a drummer but my new band is an acoustic one and gusto ng kabanda ko cajon ang gamitin ko. medyo boring for me. how about using this FT/BD with snare using brush stick? ok na naman siguro for acoustic. what can you say?

thank you very much.

sir bone, tama si sir JP! pwedeng snare and a converted BD ang setup mo.. ganun din naiisip ko incase na mag akustik kame.. kasi im bored or i can't play with just kahon (no offense to cajon user ha!).. it's just me.. hehe.. one band i know that uses that setup is the "U-Turn" band.. converted BD, snare, chimes, Splash cymbal?, and a shaker for ostinato beats..

cheers!!!

Floor Tom ==> Kick Drum
« Reply #37 on: January 17, 2007, 04:48:54 PM »
I'm a guitar player who's interested in learning to play drums.  Other than budget reasons, I don't think I'm ready for a full setup.  I've been thinking of this in my head.  Here are my questions:

     1.  How can I convert a floor tom in to a kick drum?
          - how do I convert the pedal to hit the skin upwards and how do I attach that?
          - how if I put pillows/teddy bears/whatever inside, if I leave the tom standing, will it still sound like a floor tom?  If not, how different will the sound be?

     2.  How do I attach a high tom to a floor tom?
          - basically, I'm thinking of something similar to a coktail drum setup but instead of standing, I want to be seated.

     3.  How much do you think this will cost?

Thanks in advance brethren.

     1.  How can I convert a floor tom in to a kick drum?
see thread somewhere
          - how do I convert the pedal to hit the skin upwards and how do I attach that?
chain-sprocket pedals will do. check first if the sprocket of the pedal can be removed. then just reverse the position of the sprocket though you might need a longer chain. the procedure will work on the lower end gibraltar pedals and most high end pedals. some of the cheap pedals from lazer cannot be converted as per their design ie direct drive pedals
          - how if I put pillows/teddy bears/whatever inside, if I leave the tom standing, will it still sound like a floor tom?  If not, how different will the sound be?
puff puff puff (dead)
     2.  How do I attach a high tom to a floor tom?
floor tom legs are too flimsy to add more weight. best solution would be to use a stand and clamp for the high tom or put the high tom on another snare stand
          - basically, I'm thinking of something similar to a coktail drum setup but instead of standing, I want to be seated.
playing the pedal will be a challenge since your knee might hit the floor tom

     3.  How much do you think this will cost?
more than you expect, buy a 2nd hand kit or get brand new instead (worth 10k will do)

I have some considerations though...first budget, next space, 3rd, limited needs really(mejo mala Questlove ng the roots lang ang habol ko gawin).

If you're wondering why I'm posting it in this thread, it's mainly because of the floor tom to kick drum conversion.  Ang ganda nung suggestions niyo about the jungle kit style.  Pero may paraan po bang mag-MOD ng floor tom na parang sa cocktail drum set?  if so, ano ang kelangan gawin?  may idea kayo kung magkano?

Also, mas maganda bang i-attach yung high toms sa "converted floor tom kcik drum"?  or sa cymbals na lang?  or dapat ba i-attach nalang lahat sa buong unit?

here are some pics to help you.

@bone, sir, i use pinstripe 16" floor tom head.. at yung reso is stock head ng FT.. just wanted to share this.. im having problems right now with my converted BD.. nakukuha ko naman yung gusto kong tunog.. thump with a little boom.. kasi ensemble nga ang band ko kaya kelangan mejo mei konting power.. not just "tig" sound.. pero one thing that irritates me, i cant mush the beater to head.. well, not that too much mush.. just like sitting it there for a while.. every single stroke tapos mejo imumush ko yung beater, nagbbounce siya.. kaya, imbis na defined sound na "tig" lang, ngging "tig-rr" kainis.. i know na lagyan ng pillow ang loob at sa batter side.. pero how can i achieve the feel and sound that i want without mufflings? i want that thump, not to much vibe on the batter head so i can lay my beater there without bouncing, but still retaining a boom? UNMUFFLED (possible kaya?)

Or isang dahilan ren na maliit ang drum shell kaya, nde ko tlga maachieve yung feel na gusto ko pag nde ko ginamitan ng muffling? or dahil walang butas reso head ko? hay.. Or i just have to discipline my foot that on every stroke, angat beater kagad? hehehe.. kakaiba..

cheers guys!!!

Yay! thnanks kuya pao sa reply! hehehe gulong gulo na talaga ako kahapon e.. sumakit ulo ko.. so shell size really matters.. kasi kahit super loose na yung head, mei bounce paren.. hehehe.. maybe i have no choice para maachieve ko yung feel kundi lagyan ng muffling tlga.. unang muffling nun is just a patch of hanky, still not enough.. hehehe..

About sa foot naman.. keeping the beater off after a stroke is a good practice din eh? :) isa ren yan sa naka confuse saken kasi most drummers na nakikita ko eh nagmmush ng beater sa batter head.. and bcoz of that, i thot na baka mei disadvantage ang "beater off after a stroke" kaya mas maraming nagmmush.. hehehe..

one good example ng drummer na hindi nagmmush is Simon Philips.. naobserve ko sa lumang videos niya.. playing "V8" and "Cosmos"

cheers!!
