Getting through "bad guitar day"
« on: February 23, 2013, 11:57:45 AM »
I'm sure most of us, if not everyone has encountered this so-called "bad guitar day" or "bad technique day".. wherein for some weird reason, you just can't play properly for that hour or day or whatever length of time.

How do you get through this? Do you just wing it and take the day off? Or do you have some sort of meditation to make it go away?

This is not uncommon to guitar players or to any musician for that matter. What I normally do when "bad guitar day" strikes is, I just get on with it and kind of "simplify" my approach until I reach a certain point of relaxation and just take it from there. Bad guitar day or not, the show must go on, as they say.

you live to play another day. that's what I always say to myself if I'm having a bad guitar day.

if i can`t learn or master the song`s masterpiece, i`ll just improvise it or find another song that is more simple.
Minsan naman, pag may natututunan akong licks, nakakalimutan ko na yung mga old signature licks ko

of course you are WRONG.
hiyaw is a noun. it is the magic sound produced by a extra-special guitar that are made from unicorn horns.

BTT:
pag napagod ka na sa pagkakaruon ng "bad guitar day"., I suggest you put down the guitar and go to the nearest SPA or Sauna to relax.

Sometimes I experience this. What handled it was just practicing a lick for 5 to 10 mins (depending how bad the practice day is going) and decisively stopping. Then if I get a craving to practice again, I practice a new lick for that short period as before. Then stop.  In the process of repeatedly doing this, I just get to a point that I get to increase my time period of practicing something and the day went by with me achieving something. Pero may times talaga I just dont play guitar. Gitara lang naman yan eh hehe so I wont let it be over my life and other stuff.

practice standing up. or wear ur strap in the same length while seated down and when you stand up. This helped me a lot.

Usually nangyayari din sakin to, for some reason parang tamad gumalaw daliri parang may delay na ewan. Or sadyang wala lang sa tamang hulog tumugtog, dinadaan na lang sa fast chromatic then end with a "hiyaw" lulz. My personal formula to make non guitar players think I'm awesome LOL

It usually happens when I bring the wrong guitar to wherever I'll play. I normally don't use my Baker b3 Fire to church because it tends to sound too dominant/on top of the mix.

I also tend to play like crap whenever I forget to stretch beforehand. It's a basic but invaluable lesson taught to me by master Perf.
"The LORD will save me, and we will play my music on stringed instruments all the days of our lives, at the house of the LORD." Isaiah 38:20
