it means hindi naka-screw yung lugs sa mismong drum shell.
naka "float" sila around the shell.

tingnan mo sa pic na ito:

notice how the lugs "float"?
solid shell yan, kasi nga no holes drilled to accomodate the lugs.

Ahh ok...
So if its floating how does that affect the sound?
you can just change the shell to different materials right?

1. So if its floating how does that affect the sound?

nothing your ear can discern, it just looks good  :-D

2. you can just change the shell to different materials right?

yes as long as one side of the shell is flat and that the shell can fit on the cradle. the cradle is gray part at the bottom, it holds all the lug posts and the strainer

Adding to that...  Since there are no drilled holes in the shell (perhaps except for the vent hole) and no screwed/mounted hardware, the free-floating shell can vibrate freely as a single, unobtruded unit (hence, its name).  And what we get is a more resonant snare drum sound.

There is no vent hole in the main shell...  :-D

It's located in the aluminum cradle behind the snare strainer...

Shells are very expensive though...

Have you dealt with them already? How do you go about ordering shells from them?
