Reflection, or in this case glare, is good if you want to show dimension and/or texture, of course, depending on what the photographer wants. If you want to minimize the glare in reflective areas such as glass or polished wood, use a polarizer.

yeah i agree that the reflection of the lights on the second pic is nice since it does add dimension and somewhat "frames" or contours the guitar. thing with the first pic is that the reflections are HUGE and it keeps my eyes from focusing on the guitar itself.
oh yeah, forgot about using polarizers. hehe the problem with those is that they lose like 2 stops of light diba? and it's hard to use when you're using flash for your lighting since it's not constant. it ends up being like a guessing game. i'd prefer to try to manipulate the lights instead
oh yeah, what's the difference between reflections and glare? i always thought of glare kasi as the same thing as flare. maybe i have some misconceptions though since i havent been doing this too long. would appreciate any input
