best bang for the buck ang samson para sa mga home studios pati na rin sa live.

here's a comparison i made using a shure sm57 and a samson qtom. let your ears and your wallet decide.

yup ok na yan.

dito nakakabit sa kin http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductId=43

wag ka na bumili ng mixer. my firestudio project can be a stand-alone mixer if i need it to mic my drums live or i can use it with my pc to record drum tracks at home. i got it at ebay for 15k used. kapresyo lang ng mga  8-channel mixers din kaya dito ka na lang.

I'm currently using audix mics --

snare -- i5
kick -- d2
overheads -- 2 x f15
rack toms -- f10
floor tom -- f12

audix ung kinuha ko kasi nakakuha ako ng good deal sa used ng fusion set nila tapos nagdagdag na lang ako ng i5 and d2. Ganda tunog nung f15 as cymbal overheads. Walang processing or eq akong ginagawa sa nirerecord ko ang ganda na. Ganun din ung sa i5. Tapos ung i5, f10, f12, metal ung casing and since nakakabit sya sa snare and toms, kaya nya kahit paano iwithstand ung matamaan sya ng stick :-)

Hardware recording ang setup ko (fostex hard disk recorder) - kailangan ng mixer (yamaha mg series) dahil sa number of inputs.

starting to mic the drums is a dangerous path (for the person and his wallet :-) ). Dyan nagsisimula lahat :-) Una mic, susunod stands/clips, susunod recorder (or computer + interface + softare) susunod processing / production tools. Wala pa yung sound proofing and acoustics ng room :-)

Ano pala objective mo bakit mo gusto mic? Sometimes a camera could do, or maybe one of those portable recorders (ganda nung zoom q3 :-)). Depende sa objective mo, you might be able to get by with some of the cheap mics, post-processing lang ang katapat nyan :-D

BTW, the drum recording thread might also help...

the usual suspects used in professional recording studios are as follows:

kick - akg d112, senheiser MD 421, Shure Beta 52
toms - Shure Sm57, MD 421, Audio Technica atm 25, akg d112 (floor),
snare - MD 421, Shure SM 57
snare botton - sm 57 or any large diaphragm condenser that can handle high SPL's
overheads - akg c451 or other pencil condensers like the Rode NT 5 matched pair
hihats = akg c451 or other pencil condensers
ambient mic - at 4050 or any large diaphragm condenser (you don't need this if the room doesnt really sound so good)

you could look for alternatives for these if you're concerned about budget. peeves found a cost effective alternative for the 57.

i suggest use mic stands instead of clips.  it's best to record in a not so reverberant space (do the "clap test"), with a high ceiling :)

phfreq was right to ask about your purpose.  san mo sya gagamitin?
FOR RENT: Canon 550D, Canon 60D, Glidecam (Machinist), Toribio Slider EX with a pair of tripods for mounting, 2 1000W Lights with 9ft stands, Zoom H4, Rode Video Mic, Portable LED Lights 09154574744

ah ok. Kung ultimately gagamitin sa church, I would suggest starting it right and start kaagad dun sa intented venue and purpose. Research and read a lot. Tapos, sa mic'ing, maraming factors -- set, drummer, location, etc.. Ang mangyayari, experimentation pa rin ng placement, levels, processing, etc... The setup that works at home might not work dun sa venue -- room acoustics, area where the sound needs to be propagated, speakers/PA, etc..

visiting other churches, talking to how they're setup, looking at their equipment, and talking to whoever's in charge will be a lot of help. You'll know which ones work and which don't, what their problems are and how they solved it. Pag bumisita, kung makukuhanan mo ng picture / video ung place -- carpeted ba, maraming windows, walls, curtains, PA, etc.. Basically venue acoustics.

Goog luck in your quest :-)

in a budget daw mga bro. d112's are way above the 10K price range.
for something cheaper but does the job well, i would suggest samson's q-kick. it's not perfect pero it's way above decent.

AUDIX D6 Instrument Mic

eto natry ko rin. maganda rin siyang all-around drum mic, hindi lang pang-kick.
may nirecord na drum track using only one mic. it's this mic. with a little eq tweaking, ok yung kinalabasan (for demo lang ha syempre).
