After years of playing guitar, what are some guitar/guitarfx related techniques that you have missed, skipped or overlooked? Why did you skip/miss it?

If you want to help forumers advance or catch-up with a particular technique, please also feel free to share helpful  links and lessons.   




I'll start!

I've been playing guitar since high school.  The guitar was introduced to me with a pick.  It never left my right hand every time I play, I guess dahil puro rock din ang gusto ko noon so I got used to playing with a pick all the time.

So I never learned how to pluck with my right hand fingers and it only dawned upon me months ago when I acquired a decent acoustic guitar that I need to catch-up on learning how to pluck and play fingerstyle!

So at present I took a break from playing electric guitar and started learning how to pluck on an acoustic guitar.

15 years of playing guitar and I still can't/don't know how to do:

correct pull-offs
keep other strings muted when bending
pinch harmonics at the lower frets
sweep picking
dial in high gain tones (kahit sa multi-fx!)
tapping
chords other than those in the chord book
use a delay effect (other than tempo based ones)
lower string action (because I like it higher)
use a wah pedal
use a whammy bar

^Same here.

I still don't know how to sweep pick. Haha I remember during the early years of college when I decide to "Okay every 8pm I'm gonna practice this thing and I'll nail it." I'll open this video of Paul Gilbert in youtube teaching his tecniques, I'll watch it, and then I'll just search for "Paul Gilbert Solos" and end up just listening to it. ahaha. I used to be very frustrated about it but I since then realized that I don't need that technique considering the music that I really like and the ones that I write. Still, I'm a fan of PG.

After years of listening to Led Zep and AC/DC, I don't really know how to play much of their songs.

After years of playing RHCP songs, I still can't sing "Snow" and "Funky Monks" while playing it. haha

After about a decade of on-off guitar playing, and turning serious during the last four years, hindi pa din ako marunong...


1. sweep picking - as an alternative, I learned string skipping. although may mga sweep picking stuff na mahirap ireplicate with skips
2. continuous 3 note per string legato runs - as a big fan of Joe Satriani, i am ashamed to admit this. magawa ko man siya going up the fret, the same cannot be said going down.
3. i cannot properly do the arpeggio + tapping thing.
4. pick fast accurately. i can pick fast, then make my guitar sound like a blender. SKILLREX!
5. singing vibrato

I still haven't tried to SING a complete song.
I still have no AMP other than a small practice amp.
