Make Your Own Jazz and Blues CD Primers
« on: December 18, 2006, 03:23:59 PM »
If you were given a chance to compile a Jazz and Blues CD Primer/s, what songs will you put in it? Who will be the artists in it (almost synonymous with the first question)? Liner notes? How would you arrange the songs in the disc? By era? By order of intensity? By order of "listenability" (since it's a primer, it should be easy on the ears for someone interested in delving into the form for the first time.)?

You may also include our country in the primer for us to know how the genre was introduced.

Thanks!  :-D

Handy, Jelly Roll Morton, etc. hanggang big band nung 30's to 40' Duke Ellington, Count Basie, etc. Tapos, Be Bop- Charlie Parker & Dizzy Guillespie papuntang Cool, entra si Miles Davis, Jobim at West coast scene, John coltrane at Miles papuntang Fusion to modern jazz, Weather report,Yellow Jackets,Herbie Hancock, Scofield, Metheny,Roy Hargrove, Dave Holland,andami!.........

......tapos ano kaya kung tapusin ko sa Kenny G?..parang Jazz Funeral :-D

I think they're asking about an "essential listening" list though... :-)

I'll think of what an essential jazz list would have. But for now, I'll just state that Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" should be in there somewhere.

I guess it's a general consensus among jazzers that Kenny G is the jazz anti-Christ.

Ah, ok... kala ko Primer as in Blues 101 write-up... tipong mix-tape pala!

Naku... sasabog ulo ko kung iisipin ko what to put in one cd... even harder to decide what to leave out... Basta, it should start w/ a griot from Africa and end with, maybe John Mayer?! (the end of blues music as we know it!)    *hehe... just kidding... lufet din ni Mayer... pa-cute lang kasi e*   :-D

..Parang ganun na nga :-(   Pero in fairness naman to Mr.G, magaling nman talaga sya.Original yung tunog nya(IMHO)..

Yup! Somewhat like that.  :-D

Kasi let's face it, hindi madaling sakyan ang jazz for some people. I'm after more of a compilation which will help the listener appreciate jazz easier without making it a sell out genre. Puwede rin book cum CD compilation.  :-) Educational in a way and at the same time enjoyable.  :-)

Puwede rin pero medyo madami ata sila...  :-)

Siguro parang supplement na lang sila, di ba?  :-D
