TASCAM 224 help
« on: January 04, 2007, 04:07:48 AM »
Ever since I got this thing used...the other XLR jack or input 2 doesn't work. I've been recording with only one mic...using input 1....the disc came with a driver a WDM  1 in , 1 out.
Is it my driver? or is input 2 defective? Is there another driver that I can dowload free?

I am asking this 'coz I want to try dual mic recording sa amp ko.

thanks.

Is this it?

Your using Sonar Right?

If you wanna record 2 tracks at a time WDM Drivers doesnt do that you need ASIO. While googling about your hardware i saw that your gear supports ASIO 2.0.

You should try installing bossing Kit's suggestion the ASIO4ALL driver from asio4all.com

Hope it works

This is unusual, Phil. WDM supports stereo or 2-channel recording at the very least. See if the WDM stream sums the 2 inputs into a single input driver. Usually, it will be a stereo/2-channel feed, but you can assign either the left or right channel to an individual mono track in Sonar.

Musta na Sonar 5 mo, Phil? I'm playing around with the VC-64 compressor in S6 and it's very good! Ung V-Vocal pa lang sa S5 e, sulit na! No need for Autotune.

phil, nung nasakin pa yang US224 ko wala ako naging problem nagagamit ko all inputs w/ the bundled WDM and ASIO drivers... baka sa settings mo lang sa sonar ang prob or baka yung unit mo mismo ang may problema... actually nung nag update ako nung latest drivers nila lalo ako nagkaproblema so i switched back na lang dun sa bundled driver and everything worked fine until i sold it to poundcake

Can you boot in safe mode? Press F8 while windows is booting, after all the DOS screens. You should be able to transfer your files if you can enter safe mode.

haaaaay...restore.....wipe out lahat....at least isang kanta lang ang nawala.

So how do I do this again? how can I use both inputs sa TASCAM ko?

Just settled for Sonar 4 PE right now.

any of you guys know where I can download Edirol VSC? I downloaded it once before...I can't find it anymore.

Don't bother. Sonar 4PE has TTS-1 which is practically the same.

now heres a question...I have songs using the Edirol VSC...since wala na sa computer ko...when I open the file...it tells me na wala ang Edirol plug-in . Can I the TTS-1 as a replacement? or do I have to record it all over again using the TTS-1?

Just re-assign the midi output to TTS-1. There might be a slight difference with bank numbers (can't recall coz it's been a long time since I've even seen VSC). but it will work out fine. No need to re-record everything since midi is quite flexible, and besides, TTS-1 use the same Roland sounds (I just hate the synthy sounding snare).

When you open your Sonar project, it will warn you about the missing VSC. Just ok that message and proceed to load the project. Once you're in, open up the DXi rack and remove/delete VSC, load TTS-1. It will create 2 additional tracks by default, a synth output ttrack and a midi track assigned to the TTS-1 which you can disregard.

In your track view, expand the tracks until you see the midi output dropdown. Simply assign every midi track to the TTS-1 and you're done! If you've used up all 16 channels inn TTS-1 and you need more, just add another to the DXi rack and sequence to your heart's content, or do what I do and use a different synth altogether (some of my projects have 4 or 5 synths, a mix of hardware and software.).

don't use asio4all for the tascam...maganda drivers niyan...baka sa setting lang ng recording mo...i have the 428 okay naman...if you're using sonar, choose mo lang sa input baka sa A pa rin ang input mo...it's okay to use WDM drivers...tingnan mo lang san hiyang yung pc...sa akin BSOD ako lagi if i use ASIO...

Phil,

Are you using the US-224 with this? Or your new 1082? Checking with the Tascam forums reveals that Sonar plus asio with the tascam gives you the dreaded BSOD! Definitely a tascam driver problem, not Sonar's fault. Use WDM for now. Here's a thread in the Sonar forums about the problems you're facing.

Btw, are you using 16-bit or 24-bit asio drivers? try toggling between the 2 and come back on which works. My guess is 16-bit.

It IS the best, but it ain't no DAW controller. You can opt for Behringer's BCF-2000 or M-Audio's Projectmix I/O if you need moving fader automation. A relatively cheaper solution would be RME's Fireface 400 paired with Presonus' Faderport or Frontier Design's Alpha Track.
