Saw the 100W head at Perfect Pitch selling for 23k+. Sakto sa 1x12 cab yung size. Ka-price ng DSL15 head haha. #salivating

Got the head. The HYPE is real. Maganda tunog. Ang layo sa mga Line 6 at Blackstar SS amps. Juicy mids. Try it with a great 2x12 or 4x12 cab! It's loud. It sounds 90% like my Peavey 6505 Mini Head. Only this one has more body and volume.

And that 5 inch built in speaker!!! It sounds quite good. Now to try those SNEAKY AMPS inside this thing.

Best $275 I have spent.

Breakthrough

BOSS has always been about helping musicians make killer music.
But stability is overrated, and brand boredom is the kiss of death.
That’s why we’re completely revamping our game.
Never resting on our laurels or rehashing old ideas,

All so that musicians can express themselves more freely
through that life-changing medium of music.

I have the 50 W.

For the price, I didn't expect to be blown away. Besides, I was just looking for an able platform for my GT-1.

Got disappointed at first as I thought my pre-loved Fender Mustang I V2 sounded better. I expected this amp to be more pedal-friendly.  I just wanted to use it straight-up panel mode which the Mustang doesn't have and I'm not interested in the internal effects it offers as they are modelled from the GT-1 anyway. I almost regretted buying this as I thought the speakers sounded flat. The only consolation was the full-range acoustic channel that makes it a quite decent acoustic amp.

But after a couple of weeks, I realized that I only set it between 0.5 and 25 W settings as I didn't want to piss off my housemates because I knew it can get too loud. Yesterday, I set it to 50-watts and noodled away. Only then I felt the "bounce" I've experienced in Marshall JCM 600. It felt "tubey" and the clean tones are surprisingly great.

Now I can tell I was quite blown away with the analog feel of this SS amp. It sounds great and its damn loud!

I auditioned the Boss Katana 100 1x12 at Perfect Pitch today with a 2017 Fender Am. Spec. Strat. I noodled around with the clean and brown sound settings and I must admit that although it does sound great, somehow it is still not as satisfying as a tube amp.

It reminds me of the Pancit Canton analogy.

I LIKE PANSIT CANTON AS IT IS CHEAP AND SATISFYING BUT WILL NOT REFUSE PANSIT CANTON SERVED AT ANY FANCY SCMANCY PLACE AS LONG AS I CAN AFFORD IT.

pareho clang nakakabusog at masarap para sa akin,so the fuss about boutique gears and whatnots is not really that big deal to me.

if you can afford it thats fine,if not that is still ok just as long as you enjoy what you play.

The thing with the combos is that the speakers are not that good. For tube feels, you need to run the master high. But yeah, still not the real thing. Still better that the other tube emulating amps in that price range, though.

KATANA System Program (Ver.2.01)
Use BOSS TONE STUDIO for KATANA Version 2 as a set with KATANA series version 2.
How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your KATANA before downloading the archive file.

Turn the POWER switch on while holding down the [ TAP ] button.
If the indicators light up as described below, the system is at the latest version.
    For KATANA-100, KATANA-100/212, or KATANA-HEAD
When the [ POWER CONTROL ] switch is adjusted to "0.5W," the indicator for "DELAY/FX" lights up.
When the [ POWER CONTROL ] switch is adjusted to "100W," the indicator for "REVERB" lights up.

    For KATANA-50
When the [ POWER CONTROL ] switch is adjusted to "0.5W," the indicator for "DELAY/FX" lights up.
When the [ POWER CONTROL ] switch is adjusted to "50W," the indicator for "REVERB" lights up.
If the indicators light up in a different way than just described, perform an update.
When you have finished verifying the version, turn off the power.

* Don't perform the update if the product is already up-to-date.

Update history
[ Ver.2.01 ] OCT 2017
Additional Functions
Please refer to the "KATANA Owner's Manual" for detailed information in the [ Owner's Manuals ].

A function to switch between BANK A/B has been added to TONE SETTING.
Please refer to the "KATANA Series Version 2 Supplementary Manual" for detailed information in the [ Owner's Manuals ].
"LINE OUT AIR FEEL" and "CABINET RESONANCE" were added.
"PHASE 90E" and "FLANGER 117E" were added to TYPE for MOD/FX.
"SDE-3000" was added to DELAY TYPE.
DELAY2, EQ (PATCH EQ), and GLOBAL EQ effect modules were added.
SEND/RETURN is now settable for each individual TONE SETTING value.
Setting the PC and CC numbers received by MIDI is now possible.

[ Ver.1.02 ] OCT 2016
Functionality Improvements

Support for BOSS TONE STUDIO for KATANA was added.
Noise when switching effects was reduced.

Bug Fix
The following bug was fixed.

No sound produced immediately after making a USB connection.

What you will need to update your KATANA

    KATANA
    USB cable
A computer with a USB connector ( Windows, Mac )

Caution when performing the update

Never apply this update data to any product other than the KATANA. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
Never power-off your KATANA while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the KATANA won't be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.

Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded "katana_sys_v201.zip" file on your computer to get the two update files named "ROMINFO.TXT" and "KATANARM.BIN" in the "katana_sys_v201" folder.
Procedure for the update
Caution

You must not rename the extracted files.
Never turn off the KATANA's power while the update is in progress. Otherwise the system program or the KATANA itself may be destroyed.

Please install the extracted system program files into your KATANA according to the following procedure.

Adjust the [ MASTER ] knob to minimum.
    * Do not connect the KATANA and the computer yet.
Turn the POWER switch on while holding down both the [ CH1 ] and [ PANEL ] Tone Setting buttons.
The indicators for the [CH1] ~ [CH4] buttons flash.
Connect the computer to the KATANA's USB port by a USB cable.
The indicators for the [CH1] through [CH2]/[CH4] buttons stop flashing and stay lighted, and a "BOSS_KATANA" drive appears on the computer screen.
    Open the BOSS_KATANA icon.
"Removable Disk (*:)" may appear instead of the BOSS_KATANA icon.
Copy (drag and drop) all the files included in the "katana_sys_v201" folder into the "BOSS_KATANA" icon.
    * Do not copy the "katana_sys_v201" folder.
Disconnect the BOSS_KATANA from the computer.
    With Windows 10 / Windows 8.1 / Windows 7
Right-click on the "BOSS_KATANA" icon in My Computer (or the "Removable Disk (*:)" icon) and execute "Eject."
    With Mac OS
Drag the "BOSS_KATANA" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock.
    Disconnect the USB cable.
    The [PANEL] button flashes.
Press [ PANEL ] button to start the update process.
While the update is in progress, the "EFFECTS" indicators light up.
When the update has finished, the "EFFECTS" indicators slowly flash simultaneously.
    Turn the KATANA power off.
This completes the update operation. The new system program runs at the next startup.
Follow the procedure for verifying the version to verify that the version has been update

Haven't visited this forum in months! anyway, I'm glad there is a Katana amp thread here. I got the Katana 100 1x12 a few months back, and updated to the latest firmware kagabi. I love this amp, it doesn't pretend to sound like other amps, it just sounds good. Btw, have you guys tried cranking the master volume first then setting the levels on the channel volume? The amp responds differently...better imho.

Yeah. I run the master high. The amp just gets more cab resonance. With the new firmware, you can tighten this behavior up.
