I don't get why some of you guys here hate Incubus' current bassist 'Ben'.. He's a great bassist in the first place considering he used to play guitars. Not just that, he also plays drums & he's also responsible for some of those harmonious high-pitched back-up vocals for their last 2 albums.
Dirk is no doubt a great bass player but his playing differs from Ben's.
Dirk is known for his great slap/pop bass & soloing technique while Ben is more extreme on the latter. He has his own way of playing his instrument as well.
Each musician has his own influences & style, so why blame Ben when he couldn't EXACTLY play like Dirk?
The albums? I like them all but I LLLOOOVVVE the earlier records Fungus Amongus, S.C.I.E.N.C.E, & Make Yourself.
Their sound gradually changed from funk-metal to alternative but hey, they still retain their creativity on the latter albums though (And I mean all of them).
The band went through a lot of changes. Band members- DJ Lyfe was replaced by DJ Kilmore, Ben stepped in for Dirk Lance/Alex Katunich, Mike replaced his Mesa amps & P.R.S guitars w/ Marshall & vox amps together w/ Fender Jazzmaster guitars, their music changes over time but 1 thing never changed.
Mike Einziger is still one of my Guitar Gods (that will never change). I even bought a D.o.d Gonkultor Modulator because of him, & I love it (no wonder Mike has it on his pedal board)!
And yes, the band is gonna be here again on March 9, 2008. Araneta Coliseum, Cubao specifically.
Bought tickets already & we're lucky we called in early (VIP tickets are now sold-out).
Our 2nd time to see them perform live!
Better get tickets guys! See you there fellow Incubus fans!
