sir pareho tyo na naghahanap ng Metronomes, tpos nauwi sa Drum machine, based on reviews, I found Zoom 223 and 323 to be good. Pirced equally since used pareho.

A I have view the review and specs, ung Zoom RT 223 may built-in metronome, while ung Zoom RT 323, walng namention kung meron o wala metronome feature.

I guess, kc si Sir Peeves (sorry for the name dropping)  nag advice sa akin about drum machines over metronomes. He is using zoom as well.

Try guitar shops or any music shop, coz ive seen that most reviews are from bassists and guitarist.

As of now, I got mine, used din, but in good working condition. Ang draw back nya lng, wl sya speakers, u need a seperate speaker. Now im using one of my PC speakers.

Price range, about SGD 236+25 ata. MGA 7.5k? LATEST UNG ZOOM RT223.

If you will research online, u will notice that most reviews are slightly in favor for Zoom over Alesis. I mean SLIGHT coz, according them, the two are neck and neck in feaures or value for money yata. Other models such as BOSS and Korg are way too expensive.

yes. ok sya. I can program almost eveything. un nga lang, I was also thinking Peeves right, medyo super advance nga for me. anyway, its very useful.

Sa di ko sya nabili locally, it cost me 4.5k-5K. perro ayus naman sya. second hand un.. kasi ung brand new nasa 7K pataas yata.

hehe love the way you liad you query.

para sa kin magandang tool ang drum machine for practice and study purpose.

practice.......you can set it up as not just a metronome but with tasty percussion patterns
with accents on the downbeats para mas madaling sabayan at di boring sabayan.

study........so ang dami mong nakikitang drum patterns, ideas or transcriptopns sa mga drum mags or drum books.
kung maganda yung pattern or notated drum solos. any drum idea you have you can hear them in real time
sa drum machine once you prgrammed it of course.

Haha! thanks bro!

So sa drum machine pwede any part of the drums patunigin in place of the click tama ba? :?

..and all drum machines are programmable diba? I mean you can input any of the drum notations you have into them and actually here what they would sound like? :?

What about those software that mimic the drum machine capabilities? Is the drum machine still better compare to those? Price wise? :?

More inputs please.. :|

Haha! thanks bro!

So sa drum machine pwede any part of the drums patunigin in place of the click tama ba? :? yup

..and all drum machines are programmable diba? nope, some drum machines have preprogrammed beats only

I mean you can input any of the drum notations you have into them and actually here what they would sound like? :? yup

What about those software that mimic the drum machine capabilities? any sequencer will do but will have a steeper learning curve. sequencers also have the ability to add dynamics (accenting/ghosting hits)

Is the drum machine still better compare to those? sequencers are better than drum machines
Price wise? :? sequencers are cheaper if you already have a PC, dami nito madodownload for free and i dont mean pirated ones. but drum machines are more portable than laptops/PCs so choose your side

More inputs please.. :|

i can neither choose between the two, both have specific uses:

- i have a dumb drum machine for practicing. most of the time, as a metronome only so i dont need more features/functionalities from it

- i use cakewalk to program complicated beats and these are 4 bar phrases/solos that i couldnt play by sight reading. i need the sequencer's help to be able to hear what's notated

just ask yourself why you need it and where you'll use it. im a drummer so having a sequencer is a toy rather than tool and im not patient enough to use it.

DRUM MACHINE PROS:
-portable
-easy to use
-good practice buddy
-cheap

DRUM MACHINES CONS:
-buttons are intimidating
-lower models sound stiff, no dynamics
-difficult to program because of limited buttons
-you are stuck with the sound library included

SEQUENCER PROS
-easier to program because it has better user interface
-can add dynamics
-can substitute drum sounds

SEQUENCER CONS
-need a PC/laptop to use it
-steep learning curve
-programming full beats for a song on a sequencer usually takes a day or two (at least for me, 3 years working with sequencers and still a noob) and make it sound 'human'
-most free sequencers can only work with MIDI sounds and they sound like a video game soundtrack.

*add more pros and cons

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/MIDI_Players_and_Editors/DrumFlow_Download.html

sa bahay, old cakewalk 9 na regalo pa sa kin noon. id rather play and record the song than do it in a sequencer  :-D

-- oo ser pwede kahit anong clicking style gusto mo of course dipende sa model yan.
-- yep even the most basic ones. ako minsan nag program ng 7/8 time signature sa isang
very basic drum machine hahaha had to permutate the whole beat in a 4/4 TS at sakto sa 8th bar
balik sya sa uno LOL!
--as mentioned you can either get pc drum sofwares or the whole sequencers for studying
purpose or home music editing or composing which i'm sure you can upload them as well on modern portable drum machines. the most expensive drum machines of course will give you more flexibilty
as well more sound generators.

using drum machine as a tool
« Reply #24 on: October 29, 2007, 12:06:51 PM »

May mga times na gusto ko during practice, after ng ilang bars, mawawala ang click, tapos pagkaraan ng ilang bars, babalik ulit -- and kapag bumalik ung click sound and swak pa ung palo ko, i know more or less na medyo ok ung internal time ko..

-- madali iprogram, pwedeng combination ng notes (quarters, half, 16ths, 32nds, 16th and 32nd triplets).

So in essence, may 8 measures loop ako with the first 4 measures may click then the next 4 wala.. malalaman ko kung pagbalik nung loop eh nasa timing pa ako..

Tapos lately, i've been playing around with the different rudiments around the drum set... Since wala akong drums and practice pad lang and madalas sa gabi ako may naiisip, ang ginagawa ko, program ko dun sa drum machine (medyo mabilis lang din mag program) tapos maririnig ko na (via headphones) kung ano ang magiging tunog sa kit.

And since drum machine sya, pwede akong mamili ng drum kit na kung saan i-aaply yung pattern na yon -- so pwede kong sabihin na gamitin nya sa standard drum set, or sabihin ko brushes ang gamitin nya instead of regular sticks.. tapos pwede pang i-apply yung pattern sa electronic sound like a tr808, tr909 or other special effects kit...

Ang naiisip kong analogy ay:

hit patterns = letters
drum kits = fonts

Isa pang natuwa ako eh since drum machine, pwedeng baguhin ung tempo.. so malalaman mo rin ang tunog nya kung mabilis sya or mabagal sya -- may mga times kasi na hindi mo pa sya kayang "physically" i-play ng mabilis pero with the use of the drum machine, pwede mong ma-simulate ung sound... malalaman mo kung ok ba sya mas mabilis or maganda ba syang gamiting fills or something.

Ok sana talaga kung sa drum kit mo try pero there are just times na hindi pwede gumamit ng tunay na kit eh..

May midi in and out din ito, so pwede kong kabitan ng alesis control pad or any other midi trigger to generate the sound..

so, if you're thinking of getting a high end metronome, also consider of getting a drum machine.

wala lang.. share ko lang... hth....
