@bea_rox: Oks lang makinig ng smooth jazz because I got weened on that before I got into the meaty stuff. Kaso nagsimula ka na sa karne kaya ituloy mo na lang.  :-)

@Bammbamm: Yung Zen and the Art of Dressmaking ng Wdouji available sa Mag:Net outlets. Ewan ko lang yung Ground Zero still from Wdouji. Sadly, yung Buhay ko last copy na yun from Star Records. Naghahanap pa rin ako ng Jaawe Lang.

@aya_yuson: Kumusta na sir yung Ground Zero? Nag-fold na yata yung N/A Records, wala nang mabilhan nung album. Ire-release ba siya under a new label?

Talaga? Wala na ang NA Records? Di ko alam yon.

Ewan ko kung may balak ang Wdouji i-release pa uli ang Ground Zero. Pero may mga kopya pa naman floating aroung here and there. Sina Simon, may mga kopya pa naman.

N/A Records was just a distributor of indie productions - the artists have all the rights so they can always do a new pressing. I would suggest that the artists take control and sell the product directly over the Internet. Forget the whole brick and mortar distribution chain.

Wow! Good to know! Pareng Bamm, pasyal ka na lang sa Freedom Bar then tiyempuhan mo sila Sir Simon for a copy of Ground Zero. Ang problema ko na lang ngayon yung Jaawe...

Bud Powell, Art Tatum. Pero maganda talaga if you'll start with the Parker-Gillespie works like I do. Lupit!

I didn't notice malabo pala yung tanong ko pero thanks sa info. Ang ibig ko palang itanong is straight bebop players ba sila Pat Martino and Mike Stern? Regardless, anong albums sila nag-bebop? Thanks!  :-)

Hey Marco!

Yes, Mike Stern did come out with a more 'straight-ahead' album way, way back, as fusionenigma said, 'Standards (and other songs). I'm pretty sure he's followed that up with more recent 'trad' stuff, but I'm not exactly sure what their titles are.

As for Pat Martino, I think most of his earlier works were bop-based, such as 'Consciousness' or 'Exit.' Although he did get a little more daring at some point by fusing more brazen rock elements, like what he did on 'Joyous Lake' (which remains my fave Martino album).

Between the two, Martino's the more 'straight-ahead' guy.

That doesn't mean Stern can't measure up, though. Although when he does, his rock/blues side always creeps in a lot.

+1000 parin k mike stern... fusing rock n jazz always amazes me, compared to pat martino- he's too squared and lacks experimentation... :-D pero i love how pat creates sonic bebop lines, close and similar to benson...

And what Martino songs do you cover?

Care to share your gear setup?
