Why was grunge so short-lived?
« on: February 11, 2007, 08:38:09 PM »
Bakit nga ba?  How can music this cool end so early?  Must be Kurt's death?  Or the clothes weren't that fashionable?

cguro lang bands like soundgarden and pearl jam eh di namumuhay ng bonggang lifestyle or di ganung ka mainstream yung lifestyle... di kagaya nung motley crue wala na sila ngayon pero sikat parin dahil kay tommy lee na masyadong showbiz. i think they just don't show off too much, cgurado si eddie vedder sobrang yaman na nun pero di natin siya nakikita sa TV gaano and i think pearl jam hated MTV so much and never released any music video since 1992 until 1998 then until 2006.

marami ka parin namang maririnig na mga post-grunge band.. although not labelling them as such, sa tunog naman maririnig mo. yung mga riffs alam mo na na grunge.

pero i dont think na patay na ang grunge..

as long as meron parin Dr. Martens.. grunge will never die ..!!!

"There used to be a way to stick it to The Man. It was called rock ‘n’ roll. But guess what. Oh, no. The Man ruined that too with a little thing called MTV! So don’t waste your time trying to make anything cool or pure or awesome, because The Man’s just going to call you a fat, washed up loser and crush your soul. So do yourselves a favor and just give up!" - School of Rock

grunge lives!
particularly to those who rocked hard during the nineties.
music redefines itself..or people who loves or makes music redefines.
as for me, most songs these days are less angry than it was during grunge days.EMO, for me, is not great. theyr a redifinition of commercialized punk. EMO says theyr angry, but arent really...not like the nineties when fans and rockers (of grunge) become true to themselves, conquering human limitations.
suicidal?emo is not even close.theyr just pretending to be..

grunge is not a fashion statement, its more than that...its the anger from within that drives those rockers (grunge) hard, mostly out of tune plays, screams, overdose, and suicides.

its not that i loved the idea of those...but the fact that they were true, rebellious of anything that controls them, and not pretending to be and commercialize to sold out lots (juz like most of todays rock icons)

long live grunge...not dead.

roK ON!!!

Grunge sounded too cool that too many people liked it... and it morphed into "alternative", which really sucks. Admit it... Cueshe sounds grunge-y, only they adopted the senti side of it. In this way, grunge lives.

Problem is, hindi masyado kumita yung aggressive side of grunge. It was too gory, dark, and so real that not too many people accepted it. Then it finally went away when Green Day and Limp Bizkit came and punk and hardcore became an accepted form of aggression... and thus borne Emo (hahahaha)

Di ko na na-quote pero I think ganun nga, they're not into the fab lifestyle thing. Even if most of the grunge people left their bands or joined the earth they still remained true to it. No frills, just honest rock!

Yes. Rock is generally commercial music, just like pop, and has the same characteristics: a tune that's easy to follow and add to karaoke machines, a few bars of music for tracks three to four minutes long, regular lyrics and a refrain, a beat that appeals to youngsters, something marketed heavily (and sometimes included in a TV show, movie, television commercial, or computer game) until the next generation is sold something "new," and then re-labeled, re-sampled, and/or re-marketed.

Because it's pop music, like much of rock and other commercial forms of music.

so alice in chains and soundgarden is pop to you ?

The likely reason why you heard about grunge in the first place is because it became commercialized, i.e., marketed by international record companies, played on for-profit radio stations, and shown on music video channels. Much of pop music is sold that way. As for that "angry" thing, I think that's make-believe. After all, how does one reconcile that anger with celebrity status?

I DISAGREE TO U COMPLETELY...

IT MAY BE COMMERCIAL TO SOME OR EVEN MOST OF US PARTICULARLY TO THOSE WHO SELLS...

YES, BUT NOT ALL SELLS...

MUSIC OR ROCK IN PARTICULAR (OR GRUNGE), IS ORIGINALLY NOT FOR SALE...IT CAME FROM THE PEOPLES HEARTS AND MINDS,  AND THEN SINGS THEM WHETHER OR NOT IT IS ANGRY. WELL MOSTLY, IT'S SOMEWHAT, A THING THAT CAME OUT WITH INSPIRATIONS, SADNESS,  AND OR ANGER , AND ETC.

YOU GOT THAT?IF NOT, THEN YOUR NOT A TRUE BLUE ARTIST OR MUSICIAN WHO LIVES THROUGH ART OR MUSIC...YOURE JUZ A PLAIN COMMERCIAL MERCHANT WHO SELLS EVERY THING THAT WOULD SELL OUT.

WITH OR WITHOUT MONEY...ARTS AND MUSIC MAKES US.

ROK ON!

AN ARTIST DOESNT SELL...MERCHANTS DO.
ARTIST MAKES ART OR MUSIC, AND THEN SOMEWHAT APPRECIATED...AND MERCHANTS CAME OUT OF NOWHERE, SELLING IT...GOT ME ON THIS?
WELL, SANA...I JUZ CANT BELIV U HAVE THE WRONG NOTION.

WHEN ARTIST MAKE A LIVING, ITS A LIVING. AND IT ALL MATTERS TO THESES TWO THINGS, "TO BE TRUE AND SELL" OR "BE FALSE AND SELL EVEN MORE".

SANA YOU GET MY POINT, SO THAT THIS WONT LEAD EVERYONE IN CONFUSION. YOU MAYBE SMART BUT NOT QUITE...

AND IF YOU REALLY WOULDNT GET MY POINT, THEN MAYBE, JUZ MAYBE...YOU DONT ROCK!PEACE OUT
