To tell the honest truth... wala.

Kasi blues is best played with a clean guitar sound.

Kung blues rock naman, kaunting overdrive, most famous would be the TS808, by Ibanez.

Others for blues rock include Marshall Bluesbreaker, BOSS BD-2 Blues Driver...

Classic simple electric blues setup: Guitar+ Cable+Amp.... but a qualifier on the amp: make sure it's the right of the right size and power for the venue, and has enough cut for you to be heard with your full band sound. That means you ought to have enough headroom to get a decent clean sound that can be heard, but should be able to get an overdriven sound that doesn't overpower everyone when you crank its volume knob.

Rule of thumb: better to be slightly overpowered rather than underpowered. That way, you can always keep the amp's volume knob set to a reasonable clean level, then get an overdriven sound by sticking any overdrive pedal in between your guitar and the amp. Most common pedals are Ibanez' TS series (TS9 or TS808), DOD Overdrive, or any of the Boss overdrive pedals. There are many others, but it depends on your appetite for pain in relation to how fat your wallet is.

Having said that, your best overdrive sound will almost always be when the amp's output section is being driven hard -- especially with tube amps -- pedal or no pedal.

Hold it - that's not what I'm saying.

Some of the best blues tones and sounds come from cranked and dirty guitars & amps. Overdrive and lots of dirt are at the heart of electric blues. But so are cutting, punchy cleans that can be heard. Your gear gotta abe ble to deliver both. A slightly overpowered amp gives you the flexibility because you can always stick a pedal in front of it to goose the amp, giving you audible cleans, fat in betweens, and nice dirt. An underpowered amp may give you great dirty tones but not the cutting cleans you need to cut through the mix. If you use a stompbox, most OD pedals you choose will not give an underpowered amp any more clean headroom than the amp naturally has. So the amp choice is key to the exercise.

Just that.  8-)

Oh, ok, thanks for making it clearer for me. :-)

He was asking kasi "guitar EFFECTS na pang blues??", and my answer was none, (kasi it depends on the amp), and I thought that's what you said too...

note:
Meron ding amps tulad ng combo amps ng line 6 na meron ng preset na blues effect. Last week  galing ako sa Guitar Center at meron mga blues guitarist doon na nag-sa-sample ng mga tube amps na specifically with blues effects.

Was looking at the thread and suddenly i remembered about effects... i'm not really sure if i'm on the right thread, but i'm gonna ask anyway..

Kasi recently i ordered an epiphone dot.. according to the reviews, it's a copy of the Gibson ES335 (the guitar used by larry carlton).. eh one song i  saw larry carlton do was in blues tunes..

is larry carlton using effects or is it the original sound of the guitar? i need to budget my money if i need/am going to buy effects..  :-D
and is it possible to achieve the same sound of Anthony Wilson's guitar (Diana Krall's guitarist) using the epiphone dot?

or (last question na..  :-D) i'm currently arranging kasi for solo guitar lang... is the sound of the epiphone dot enough kaya? kasi as of now i am thinking the guitar wouldn't really matter if the arrangement is good.. pero medyo mabigat na tone yung gusto ko, just like anthony wilson's nga...

here's a link if you want/need to hear the sound of his guitar (i think the playing starts at 2:41)...
or a clip of larry carlton...

i suspect his using a fuzz pedal, he is known to use a Big Cheese by lovetone with great results.

I think to get Anthony Wilson's sound, you have to at least play on a fat hollow body jazzbox. I tried a 335 a few times and it doesn't give me that "airy" sound i get from say an epiphone emperor regeant. Anthony Wilson also used a Les Paul on Diana Krall's "Girl in the Other Room" but that was a totally different sound from his cd "Our Gang" or Diana Krall's "Live in Paris".
And for a good blues sound I believe most guys here are correct: "guitar+cable+amp". I once stuck my guitar into a Mesa Blue Angel; the amp is a one trick pony but it sounds fantastic, moreso with a hollow body.
just my 2 centavos...

I think it really depends on the player. One can live with the guitar's tone alone. But theres always more and thats where you can use effects and even different amps and guitars. Maybe what all blues players need is a "blues rig" not necessarily effects. Its basically how your overall setup's components contribute to each other. I still think the purest blues comes from the heart even if you don't have the bucks for the right rig.

 But i still recommend the wonderful BOSS OD3. The TS808 has a special place in my heart.
