Sometimes, inspirations come from wherever you are. So, be ready for a recorder or a pen and paper.

I wrote most of my tunes just chillin' with my keyboard. looking for some cool tunes then POW! ayun na. My wife takes care of the lyrics for our band eh....

Yay, me thread na for songwriters, woot! woot!

I have lyrics in my coursing through my head almost all the time. Madalas, nakakalimutan ko na sya, so I got a voice recorder with me at all times. Ang mahirap sa kin, I can't put the music, so pasok dun yung ka-banda ko.

I wrote 4 songs and I don't know what to do with them. I know very little theory and I do apply them on my songs.

Kami rin eh, andami songs ng misis ko, but we can't seem to find the right time to make them into a full blown song. Tsk, tsk, tsk, life after college talaga.....

Kaya nga what we do in the band, kung sakaling may sessionist kami for that gig, hindi namin tinatali sa leeg. Ibigay namin sa kanya yung basic structure nung kanta tapos bahala na nya interpret yun. Sometimes the song comes out better than the recorded stuff....

hiwalay ko ginagawa yung riffs at yung mga lyrics then when i see something i like.. i just select and put them together that way hindi madidictate nung riff yung length at syllabication ng lyrics and vice versa.. if ever man kailngan i-edit onti na lang yung constraints kase you can  :-Dbe sure na alam mo n yung idea nung lyrics therefore kung palitan mo man yung wordings the thought stays there......

I write most of the songs for my band... iba ibang technique, depending on what comes up first:

1.Lyrics first, music later:
When you have a string of words in your head, a great phrase, that would be good for a song, kahit just a chorus.  I write it down first, then build the rest of the song around the main idea.

2. Music first, lyrics later:
Sometimes, while playing the guitar or practicing, I come up with a nice riff, or string of chord progressions.  I do that first.  Then write lyrics over it afterwards.

3. Simultatneous Lyrics and Music:
I think this works the best.  While you are writing down the lines, try singing it and make the melody, then hanapin mo sa gitara or piano (whatever your instrument is)

Another tip:

Marami talagang writing styles, but I have one that makes it easier to make a song.  The song does not have to be about you, you can write about other peoples experiences.  Just think of a friend of yours, or someone you know... if he or she is having any problems in life, write a story about it, that can turn into a good song... you can make it fictional of course.

meron at meron yan. hehe

Tama, minsan di maiiwasan yan, especially kung yun ang influence mo... but as long as you know that wala ka talagang pinag kopyahan malinis ang konsensya mo heheh... also, if you really think may katunog sya, hanapin mo yung song na sa tingin mo katunog, and kung katunog nga, just modify your song a bit.  Importante alam mo you didnt copy something outright. Kahit katunog sya in the beginning, pag naareglo na ng banda mo, lalayo na yung feel, dahil for sure mag iiba ang tunog nyan and will sound even better.

that's true, di talaga maiiwasan na walang similarities, especially kung yung artist eh syang influence mo. dagdag din dito eh if you're listening to a certain artist a lot, tapos you got this ringing in your head that you can't get rid of, malamang eh halos pareho ng tone.

ahhh songwriters' thread....cool

im no songwriter or anything... but sometimes I cant help..
Minsan meron na lang tono sa aking utak then sasabayan ito ng random words that match the tune..oo minsan it really happens!

Now I guess it helps if you have a pen and a book for moments like those huh.
Record the feelings.

I find the normal stuff we say more effective to use in songs.
and like other common stuff we say embraced or joined with other end deep kind of words..

"someday I will take this flowers to the sky" - flowers by Rivermaya
"Save me from myself remind me what I have to do" - 04 Bamboo
"how will we ever say goodbye?" = Bamboo Pride and the Flame

and million others by our very own local bands...
Dong Abay is also good...especially his songs from Yano...
express talaga what we feel as pinoys back then galing ng combinations of words nya.

These lyrics fall under these lyrical techniques being used in any form of writing. It may sound that its natural, just because these lyricists have been doing it for a very long time.

If you want I can explain each of these, or you could just look it up in your old Music Theory class or dictionary.
Allusion, Assonance, Compound words, Diction, Similes, Metaphors,    Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, Images, Mood, Personification, Symbols, Theme, Refrain, Rhyme, Allegory, Satire, Apostrophe, Pathetic fallacy, Verisimilitude,  Asides, Parallelism, Oxymoron, Points of View, First Person, Second Person, Third Person.

well a limerick is not a form of speech, its a writing style, where you can joke around a certain topic with heavy wordplay. it still falls under simile and metaphors.
