Catalina Maple owner here...  kung konti lang ang price difference and totoo yung mga naririnig ko about sonor 3005, mag Sonor ka na lang.   Madami daming quality issues yung catalina maple, pero maganda pa rni tunog nya.  I know 3005 has better hardware, lalo na yung tom mounts.  Yung catalina maple plagi ako nakakabasa na may warped hoop (yung isang 14" ko medyo warped).  And 3007 is supposed to be an improvement over 3005, kaya ayun ang recommendation ko.

Best try them both.

1) Availability sa store.  Sa mg available, sino sa kanila ang may masmatinong hardware and shells?  Although ayoko talaga sa tom mounts ng catalina. bumabagsak.

3) Play it, kahit konting palo lang.  Alin ang masgusto mo?

Big nyo sabihin may quality issues din ang mga Sonor?  Sale ngayon sa JB up to June 1 so yung Catalina Maple na 75K, 54K na lang. Yung 3007 naman, wala pa yata sila stocks so no idea sa price. Pero meron na sila 507 (24K) so it's just a matter of time at magkakaron na rin sila 3007. Baka yung quality issues e sa mga lower models ng Sonor (507, 1007)? 3007 is the highest model sa Force Series so I'm kinda shocked kung may hindi rin pala pulido pagkakagawa. Pumapangalawa ang 2007 which are Birch shells.

With regards to the tom mount, hands down mas astig ang sa Sonor. Kung mahirap talaga choice, probably for me it will all boil down to the tom mounts. Not to mention, mas madaming color choices sa 3007.

Pareho namang maple ang dalawa e, ewan ko lang kung alin ang mas high-grade maple. Pero makapal shells ng Sonor, 9 ply = 7mm.

Pero sa sound kaya, alin ang lamang?

Ako owner ng Catalina Maples. Pare about the quality issues well meron talaga pero tingin ko sa packaging nadadale yung drums. Kasi from the box bass drum and 2 floor toms are open at wala pa yung heads kaya nababangga sa box. Pero tol based on looks and sound, hands down to Gretsch Catalinas. Though i don't like the snare sound. Eto naman sa Sonors, 1st ayoko ng sizes, too deep for my taste, 2nd i don't like the T.A.R mounts, 3rd Ayoko nung hardware ng Sonor unlike sa Gretsch, it comes with 5600 series Gibraltar hardware packs, 4th mas mahal sha  i think.

By the way, gusto ko naman yung tunog ng snare ng catalina maple.  Yung snare na lang ni Sandy na isa eh sobrang ganda talaga kaya mataas na standards nyan.

If you're going for sound, wait for our new album to come out... We're recording it using the Fernando drums... You'd be shocked to find out that a Fernando did those beats. Birch shells sound awesome in recordings. And for the price compared to Gretsch or Sonor, you would have enough money left to get a complete set of Remo heads and 2-3 hi-end Zildjian Cymbals or 1 cymbal, a Gretsch Renown Maple Snare and a Gibraltar pedal!

But kung porma habol mo, by all means... Go for the Gretsch or the Sonor... Maganda rin naman tunog ng mga ito. But in terms of practicality, the new Fernandos have come a long way in looks, quality, and sound... In fact, the wood used in the new Fernandos are the same ones used in the Gretsch Catalina Birch series.

That's why I'm so proud of my Fernandos right now... And I stand by my product because I believe in it...

Owner of Catalina Maple here! I have played my kit for only a short period of time; and haven't tried Sonor yet; hence, that makes me less credible if I would suggest getting a Gretsch kit.

Suggestions ko;

1)Check mo yung hardware for comparison ie. mounts, pedal, stands, etc. try mo din sana kung alin ang mas komportable sayo.

2)Compare the sizes and configuration of each kit. Kung pareho lang ang diameter, sa depth siguro magkaka iba yung character ng tunog; mas malalim, mas mahaba sustain.

3)Budget issue, pare. May point si Dindin; kung sa garahe mo lang gagamitin yung kit, o ipapagamit mo lang sa iba (studio) mas practical ung Fernando kit, at least may high-end cymbal ka pa, Gretsch Renowned Maple snare,at gibraltar pedal na madadala mo naman pag may gig....   hay...sana noon ko pa nalaman 'to.......tsk! ...sabi ko na, advantage din talaga pag may endorser na tambay dito eh..
