I second the motion on the D40.

what more can you ask for?  a nice and clean (even at high iso) 6mp sensor, 2.5 frames per second, a very sharp kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6), that distinctive "nikon image output" and instant on.

cheers!

about the lens kit, is it always included with the nikon d40?? ung sabi nila na 25k raw sa hidalgo.. does it include the lens kit??... am a total newbie when it comes to dslr cams you know.. :| also, what upgrade options should i look for on the camera im gonna purchase? anyone?

25k sa hidalgo (specifically, sa Mayer) gets you a lens kit.

33k will get you either a D40x with kit lens, or a D40 double lens kit (the stock 18-55mm plus a 35-210 mm).  faced with that choice, a friend of mine got the d40x, which has a 10.2 MP sensor (vs 6 for the D40), faster shutter speed of 3 frames per sec (vs 2.5 for the d40) and you can go as low as ISO 100 (200 lang ata sa D40).

dude check out the forums at digitalphotographerphilippines.com

thanks dude!! :-D

welcome po sa philmusic! :)

yup yup! hehehehe  :-D

i would personally get a D40 over a D40x.
just a clarification, 3 fps vs 2.5 fps doesn't translate to a "faster shutter speed" as both cameras enjoy an insane 1/4000 max shutter speed.  Iso 100 is great, but it's not that important as iso 200 on the D40 looks amazing already.

one key feature that you'll probably appreciate in a month's time of shooting will be the D40's max flash sync speed of 1/500.  i have a D80 and it's 1/200 flash sync speed (same as the D40x) is driving me nuts (and draining my batteries faster)

if you plan on taking the occasional video clips, stick with the S3 IS.

Aside from the canon S3 IS (which my cousin could buy for me @ 22k in Abu Dhabi), any other cameras i could consider? i've read other topic's suggestion like the nikon d40 and the fujifilm Fujifilm S6500 but am not yet sure how much is it @ abu dhabi. I guess i would want a camera that i can use to capture close up pics (i guess they call it macro) and get to capture great views on pics but still has a good video functionality w/ audio. I've had an aiptek slimcam before which only had digital zoom and cannot capture anything on poorly lit environments so it really sucks. any other options guys?? thanks!! :-D

Tama si djspit. Get a D40 (or D50) kung gusto mo maganda mga pics, Wala nga lang sya pang kuha ng video pero may video.
OT:
Ang maganda sa D50 mas marami kang lense na makakabit di pareho ng D40 kailangan mo bilhin AF-S lense (internal motorized lense for focus.)

oki lang yun kung nagsstart ka at d40 ang gamit mo..

at least you wont be overspending on the higher models..

enjoy and figure out the cam first... =) and it is really a capable camera =)

a camera worth 23-25k  that produces 50-80k worth photos =)  hehe

and if you think that you have outgrown the d40 body within 2 years... go ahead and get a d80 or a d200 or d300 kung meron na in the future =)

and the d40 will be there...the portable one to be a nice backup cam.. to be with you on impromptu trips =)

magaan pa dalhin ang D40 kaya di ka kaagad mangangawit. Kung may extra ka pang cash mag D40X ka kasi 10 Megapix yun para pwede ka pa mag crop ng mga images without sacrificing quality.

OT:
Magkano ba yung D40X mga bossing?

It would be around 32-33k with the 18-55mm lens... Then get the 55-200mm VR lens for 14k! Kumpleto ka na!

The Battery Grip N-40 is perfectly adapted to the housing of the Nikon D 40/D 40 X. With the integrated, extremely light Li-Polymer rechargeable pack (battery capacity approx. 2200mAh) it is possible to take up to 2000 pictures between charges.

Meron na ba nito sa Quiapo??

Are you sure that's for the D40? Because the camera in the picture isn't a D40. The D40 doesn't have a command dial on the front grip... Looks like a D70 or D80...

Yes dindin, the picture above is not a D40, Its a d80. Pero yung model na para sa D40 is N-40. The picture above is using the N-80 for the D80 cameras. Ganyan din kasi ang itsura nya. 2000 shots daw pag nag kabit nyan compare to 480 shots sa stock battery. Wow!!!

you can sign up at pinoyphotography.org or pinoyphoto.net

They have forums there which advertise second hand equipment...

For a 20k budget, your best bet is a second hand Canon 300D... But be sure to check out the other brands too... a brandnew Nikon D40 with kit lens is around 22k nalang in Hidalgo...
