"When in doubt, use brute force" - Can't remember who  :-D

Ok ok... These actually are known within the computing community at large but I feel they are applicable too here. Ok, the second seems OT. Alright, both of them are OT  :-D

Although IMO, the first one can be a universal study and practice guideline  :-)

"Hard work is how you get talent."

I have had an issue with the word "Talent" for many years and have had many interesting discussions about it. Don't get me wrong, I don't loose sleep over it but my feeling is it has been over used to the point that is doesn't acknowledge and in fact dilutes a lot of the hard work that is required to perform at that level. As an example when a person says, "Well that's easy for you, you're talented" as if God laid his or her hand on that person and said you will excel at...(fill in the blank) and why would he or she just pick that person?. I believe in God but I don't believe he or she has time for that kind of foolishness. To me it follows the old saying "The harder I work the Luckier I get" and the more I practice the more talented I become by the kind of person that I am.

Well, I would disagree with God not creating "more" talented people. Some are really born better than others - but that does not constitute talent. Talent = natural abilities + skill. Sure some people may have advantages because of better natural abilities, but they can definitely be less talented than those with less natural abilities.

Just my thoughts. :)

This type of musical necrophilia - the technique of overdubbing on the preexisting tracks of already dead performers - was weird when Natalie Cole did it with her dad on "Unforgettable" a few years ago, but it was her dad. When Tony Bennett did it with Billie Holiday it was bizarre, but we are talking about two of the greatest singers of the 20th century who were on roughly the same level of artistic accomplishment. When Larry Coryell presumed to overdub himself on top of a Wes Montgomery track, I lost a lot of the respect that I ever had for him - and I have to seriously question the fact that I did have respect for someone who could turn out to have such unbelievably bad taste and be that disrespectful to one of my personal heroes.   – Pat Metheny
