To be specific, they called them Serviceman copies. They made a lot of Jazzmaster/Jaguar copies and some Strat/LP copies but the difference in hardware is often GLARINGLY obvious. The hardware on this looks pretty legit from the photos. Also, Gandy lives in China.

then its a chinaman.haha

@bakit- actually sa case ko, siguro having seen lots of guitars, I have developed some sort of intuition on checking it out whether an item is legit or not...and come on..its obvious..
kitang kita naman sa details..and a quick google can solve a lot of questions..

the headstock & the decal on the headstock looks off. i'm not an expert on mustangs so i might be wrong. also, the area where the fretboard and the headstock meets have signs of scraping. i can't tell if it's wear or intentionally scraped.

btw, here are some samples of the mustang headstock with the decals for comparison:

Bear in mind lang na in the 60s, decals were placed over the finish and they were likely applied by hand. Inconsistencies may arise. Your best bet is still to look at the heel stamp, the routes, and the pot codes.

inconsistencies could be true...but not by that much. unless the worker just had a heart attack or a stroke while a applying the decal.

Hey offset dudes, I need some input.

I'm about to buy a classic player jazzmaster that's made in Mexico. Is there any special reason that these go for cheaper than the usual jazzmasters?

I heard that the tuneomatic bridge is like a weird size and that there are buzz problems. Is this true? Also, that the barrel of the bridge is an awkward size that it can't be upgraded to the mastery bridge.

Anyone here with experience in this particular model?

q. why they are cheaper?
a. labor cost in mexico and supposedly more "cheaper" wood and hardwares compared to avri.

q. problems with tom bridge?
a. i do not have problems with mine.

q. upgrade to mastery?
a. yes you can.

Nothing a setup can't fix. No reason to change the TOM unless you want rollers or the traditional bridge. You could honestly just heat the bridge thimbles up and pull them out with the bridge posts once they could shake themselves loose of the glue. From there, you could install a regular JM bridge thimble. If you REALLY want a more traditional bridge, you can go with the Staytrem bridge for AOM guitars for drop-in replacement. CP offsets are also cheaper because of where they're made. The parts are the same ones they use on the AVRI Jazzmasters/Jaguars except for the bridge, trem, and pickups. They also have modern-style shielding instead of the shielding tubs used in AVRI/vintage offsets.
