Based on all the sleepless nights we've spent, were thinking of putting a price tag of Php5,000 for this, but that's only for this trigger to midi converter (ala Alesis trigger i/o). You need to build or buy your own e-kit/pads.

We are still perfecting the USB functionality of the unit because we built an older version of the USB portion when the megadrum guys came up with a better solution. But the price quote above already accounts for the new USB function.

We've already ordered the necessary parts for the improved USB. Stay tuned for more developments.

With the new USB board were working on, plug and play na sya sa Windows. I think the guys from megadrum said from their forums that this is also compatible with Mac and Linux, but I haven't even tried sa Windows kasi nga wala pa parts ko.

You'll notice this has no LCD display since the settings are controlled via a freeware program called Megadrum controller, which is only Windows compatible (although the developer said he's working on a multiplatform version).

Nope, we wont get into that. E-kit/pads are a whole different animal.

There are lots of info on the net on how to make your own pads, like here http://www.toontrack.com/edrum_for_free.asp

Yes, I'll put it on youtube as soon as maayos ang USB functionality nito. Napaaga kasi kami ng gawa, nagkaroon ng bagong USB version nung nakabili na kami ng parts kaya ayun, order ulit kami for the new USB version.

Yes, midi converter lang sya...no sound. If you have a TD12 (like I do) at bitin ka pa sa inputs, pwede mo pa rin gamitin to para mas marami ka pang pwedeng paluin, hehe. Parang magiging TMC-6 naman sya, mas marami nga lang dagdag na inputs. Sa froogle ang cheapest TMC-6 e US$220, ilang inputs ba ang madadagdag nun? 6 lang ata?

i havent tried recording or using any electric drums or DIY pads in my life. :-(

QUESTION:

assuming i bought this unit (megadrum) and created a DIY drum pad, all i have to do is just plug the megadrum to the MIDI interface of my computer and play/record using BFD and my recording software without using any drum module??

salamat.  :-D

Short answer: YES. That's how I record my drum track in my studio, only I use my TD12, but it works the same. Only difference is with my TD12, I can use it as stand-alone unit for practice without the need of my PC.

That is also how the Alesis Trigger I/O is used which is why this is comparable to that unit.

Also, since this has a USB input, you wont even need a midi in on your PC. Kaya lang 'di pa namin perfect and USB capabilities nito e, but the midi out works fine. See my posts in the forum of http://www.megadrum.info/forums/

Pwede. Kaya lang nasa testing phase pa rin kami. We don't want to market this na me problem 'di ba? Wala pa rin pati kami video e, pag perfect na sya, you'll all see this in action.

I almost posted something about a "missing" midi port but then I saw it above the usb port. Will this device have a facility to select midi channel output and assignable note numbers per trigger input?

Napansin nyo rin siguro na walang buttons to control the parameters at wala ring LCD para makita kung ano ang status ng parameter. That's because it's controlled by a freeware program called Megadrum controller developed by aquawicket who's also an e-drum enthusiast. The unit ommunicates to the software via MIDI sysex dumps either via USB or standard midi. Yun nga lang 'di na kasi kami naglagay ng MIDI IN kasi were assuming mas marami ang gagamit nito thru USB. MIDI out lang just in case you don't want to use it with your PC and decide to use and external sound/drum machine na may midi in.

Sa megadrum controller (see my previous post), mapapansin mo dun na may choice pa nga kung potentiometer or foot controller ang gagamitin mo (may pull down choices yun, currently nakaset sya sa potentiometer).

Very nice... the gui is understandably a little bit cluttered, but the amount of control is staggering! I take it that the unit will retain it's settings when used standalone? Save for usb access to it's parameters, can it be used without a pc for that matter?

Yes, the settings remain in the unit pero pwede rin isave sa PC then load later.

The problem with these inexpensive adaptors is that kadalasan half wave ang rectification nila, medyo nakakapasok ang line noise. Inasmuch as this is merely a midi trigger, line noise can fudge up the electronics to some extent. May filtering ba ang power supply?

Hmmm, the power supply would be the adaptor itself so I'm not sure if I actually understand that but from the original creator of the module, he said something about feeding excess electricity back to the power socket. (Oooops! Sorry, he said he was only joking about this!) See here:

http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58

In any case I will ask him about your concern or maybe you can even ask him yourself by becoming a member there.

And here's his answer:

Quote
Of course some doggy power adapter can damage MegaDrum, but my key words were "5V, regulated, 500mA". As long as the power adapter complies with it, MegaDrum will be happy to get some electricity from it:) All usb chargesI have in my house(mostly which came with various phones) powered MegaDrum without any problems.
