Macro lenses are special lenses designed for close-up work with smaller objects. As you focus further out from the minimum focusing distance, the reproduction ratio drops accordingly on non-macro lenses, but the macro lens will still focus out to infinity...

i have friends actually who use Nikkor 105mm macro lens for portraiture... and really get super sharp images...

in the case of the photo i posted, i had a hard time focusing since 18-55mm lens isn't intended for macro work...

tip: you can make your 50mm lens take macro shots by using extension tubes... the extension tubes will make you get closer to your subject :)
just pulled the trigger on a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 MACRO ....so excited.   :-D

My favorite lens is a 24-70mm f2.8L by Canon. Yummy bokeh and crisp color. Very great if used with a full frame 5D.

Which do you think is better: AF-S 35mm f1.8G or AF 50mm f1.8D? For Landscapes, night shots & portraits.

^anong camera body mo?

actually, for a 35mm or a 50mm prime lens, neither would be suitable for landscape photography. kailangan wide-angle lens. BOTH though would be top choices for night and portrait photography.

D90. Ah I see. So, what would you suggest for landscape, portrait & night photos?

kung canon ka sana i'd recommend a 17-40L. :-D

so kung nikon, either 17-55 f2.8 or yung 16-35mm f4. na parehong nasa 60k price range.  :-D
kung 3rd-party, pwede kang mag tamron 17-50 f2.8 or yung tokina 16-50 f2.8.

if i were you, i'd get a 50mm f1.8 or an 85mm f1.8 for portrait/night photography; and then get a wide-angle lens dedicated for landscape photography.

This! Thanks guys. I'd probably get a 50mm f1.8 muna.

i have a 30mm 1.4, so far, okay naman. never had a chance to try nifty-fifty but i believe they're both the same quality. although, you can push 1.4 further than 1.8. anyway, since you are comparing two lenses with same aperture, then i suggest you go with 35mm. its easier to move forward than move backward

Here's one from this thread: http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,170684.25.html

And here's another one (1st attempt sa DYI):

Ang hindi ko lang alam e kung bakit medyo mahigpit yung ring (tama ba?) ng lens. Pag ina-adjust ko yung aperture, medyo makapit. Normal lang ba to? Di tulad nung sa 18-55mm ko dati. Ambilis lang, kaya madali lang mag-bokeh. Anyway, sulit naman.
