HELP!!! my PC is rebooting on itself!!!

here's the story:
when we got our office with a dsl, i immediately hook my pc and updated the ZA and AVG.  it runs great, finished downloading and everything.  it worked out fine. until - -

when i inserted my flash drive, the moment my pc detected the external device (with that sound - ding) it reboots.  i thought there is something wrong but not really suspecting the flash drive is causing it.  then it rebooted again and again (5x).

until i decided to remove the flash, then voila,  it starts fine.

then when i put it again, nag reboot na naman.

i thought that my flash is sira or something, but when i tried to connect my ipod, the same thing happened.

my question is,
1.  What is wrong with my PC?
2.  do i need to reformat my pc?
3.  HOW to reformat?  what do i need?

bro, does the problem occur even if you connect your device to the other usb ports of your pc?

i dont know about your situation but the same thing happened to me twice. Nag re-restart mag-isa yung pc ko. Inisip ko baka may virus lang. Tapos nagreinstall ako ng windows.. format. pero naulit ulit. Tapos nalaman ko na mabilis lang pala uminit yung motherboard so bumili ako ng cooling fan (as adviced by the gilmore techs) tapos ayun gumana na. pero naulit rin ulit tapos yun pala.. sa power supply na yata yung problema so bumili kami ng bago, 350watts (p500 below lang). Mas malala nga yung sa akin dati e after ilang restarts.. hindi na talaga sya nag-on. Tapos chambahan na lang pag nag-on. Hindi ko alam yung solusyon nung sayo kasi sa flashdisk yung problema. Try mo mag-complete scan. Pag walang virus.. pa-check mo na lang. Dun sa hindi manloloko ha kung meron kang kilala na mapagkakatiwalaan at hindi ka peperahan (meaning, magbabayad ka pero wala rin kwenta yung pag-ayos nya sa pc mo.. or sasabihin malaki sira ng pc mo at malaki yung babayaran kahit simple lang naman madali lang talaga ayusin) dun mo ipaayos

hmmm... at first kala ko it's with the powersupply or memory... pero after reading your entry... hmmm... that's a tough one to call... possible din na may defect na yung motherboard mo or ung usb na pinagsasaksakan mo... and take higad's advice... dalin mo sa shop kasi it's hard to guess what's the problem sa pc kapag ndi mo siya nahahawakan or na tetest physically...

just to isolate the problem, boot your pc in BIOS, then connect your usb device.. since there is no OS loaded, you can determine if its hardware or software related...

try to update the chipset of the motherboard, try other USB ports, try to reformat your thumbdrive on another computer and plug it to your computer..    uninstalling USB under device manager and restart might do the trick as well..

medyo complicado nga ito. kapag ngdagdag ka ng hardware tataas ang temp kasi dagdag load. try mo nga din yung ibang port. masmaganda kung may temp sensor ka.

i sys restored it dated on jan 8, 2008. ayun gumana naman.
