buhayin ko lang. may kuwento kasi ako. hehehe.
i've had a PDP snare drum (natural maple finish and came with woodhoops) for a looooong time. given to me by my late grandfather almost 6 years ago. i love that snare. kahit ang dami na ring dumaan na snare (bili / benta dito sa philmusic) sa akin, hindi ko talaga mapakawalan. pero as time went by parang napapansin no hindi ko na siya ganun kadalas gamitin. so napaisip ako dahil siguro nagbabago yung taste ko sa snare sound. pinabayaan ko lang tinago ko lang ng mabuti yung snare.
a month ago nagka-extra cash ako, i decided baka upgrade lang ang kailangan. since wood-hooped nga yung snare ko, baka mas ok kung palitan ko ng metal hoops. so i did. naka-score ako ng magandang deal dito sa PM on hoops. ok yung tunog. pero...hmm nakukulangan pa rin ako eh. so back into the snare bag it went, hehehe.
out of the blue, three weeks ago nachambahan ko na online si pao (peeves) sa ym. so natanong ko lang kung pwede magpa-recut/resmooth ng bearing edges and snare beds. ok daw. pero since medyo malayo yung distance from me to him, naisip ko rin tanungin kung pwedeng pati yung toms and kick ko dalhin ko. ok parin daw. natuwa naman ako. so, nagset kami ng date (naks) hehehe. pero at the last minute nagkaron ako ng aberya, hindi ako makapunta. sinabi ko naman sa kanya. nagsorry din ako syempre. ok lang daw.
sinet namin ulit for the same day the next week. ayan, natuloy na.
i arrived at his house and HELPED ME unload my kit into his garage. mind you, this is a Sunday kaya medyo nahiya ako pumunta kasi rest day yun for most of us eh. a little drumtalk and we started discussing kung ano ang gusto ko mangyari. a little tome spend on dismantling the rims/drumheads and then he showed me the correct way to sand down and "feel" a drum's bearing edge. one by one we sanded the edges and wiping it with tung oil and then letting dry and wiping again.
but the most awesome thing he did was re-cut the PDP snare's bearing edge and snare bed. medyo tedious pero alam ko na nasa kamay ng isang master yung snare ko kay wala akong pangamba. after some tweaking with some tools, he turned on the electric saw and started work on the snare beds. parang naramdaman ko na magiging astig uang outcome nito.
sadly, hindi ko agad matest yung snare/toms/kick kasi kailangan ko muna i-air out yung amoy ng tung oil or else mangangamoy tung oil yung drumroom ko (which also happens to be my bedroom, hehehe). baka mabangag ako (peeves even gave me GOOD ADVICE to open the car windows a crack on the way home).
salamat pao. isa kang alamat in my book. walking encyclopedia ng drums, stylistic ka pumalo at higit sa lahat, mabait na tao. ang tanging pinagsisisihan ko lang ay hindi tayo nakapagjam sa kit mo hehehe. syesta time kasi tayo natapos. salamat pa rin, may next pa sana.
ang haba na pala nitong kwento ko. hehehe. so without further ado. eto yung unang recording na ginawa ko sa newly refurbished kit ko. unequalized, unprocessed by plugins or any audio processors. drum-mic-preamp-pc lang. ang layo ng pagkakaiba sa dating tunog, lalo na yung snare. nabuhay ulit yung kit ko hindi na ulit ako tinatamad pumalo. salamat talaga pare sa hospitality mo (and your wife and family) at sa pagiging astig all the way.
eto yung sample drumtrack ko. the first drum track i've recorded after the trip to peeve's drumhospital.
(pasensya na sa medyo sloppy drumming, gusto ko lang ipakita yung sound hehe. pasensya na, rapidshare lang alam ko)
