Before I always tend to throw in all the licks I know and hope it will fit the song.  So whenever I’m in solo mode my way of thinking is “eto Hendrix, tapos sundan ko ng mala-SRV pag di bumagay tapping, at tapusin ko ng ala Kirk Hammet with matching wah wah at paiyakin ko sa huli”.  And surprisingly it works during my high school days.  :-D

Going to college, a friend of mine thought me to practice the following:
- Improvise using 1 to 4 notes and play with its octaves.
- Sing the notes verbally or mentally when practicing.
- Try practicing different approach using same rhythm pattern.
- Try visualizing a start, climax and ending of a solo.
- Don’t just memorize licks, study its mood and feel.

I’m not a technical player but in my experience studying these made me a better player.

Hope this Help. :-)

the hardest part is listening to the melody in your head...then translating it to reality with the scales and notes that you have learned... :-D
the world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams...

just play as you are.

play as you are, as you were, as I want you to be... hehe jok lang.

I try to feel the song first. Then I practice the improvisation, so ang kalalabasan is half-written half-improved yung song, jsut to see what notes fit for the solo

Dapat maging comfy ka sa guitar mo, at dapat relaxed ang kamay mo when you shift notes. Don't force yourself to do something you know you're not used to on stage. Dapat i-practice mo muna ang mga scales mo and stretch your fingers out.

I have improvised my own solo over and over at different gigs, but now i'm trying to stay true to what I've recorded. It's always good to come up with a substitute solo so you won't be limited. :D

Right now, I'm trying to come up with a different solo so I can easily bend my solos. :)

may mga guitarist akong nakikita na parang in-iemulate yung tunog sa bibig habang nagsosolo, parang ginagawa muna niya through voice para alam nya siguro kung pasok ang susunod na note or hindi, parang nakikipagusap sa gitara. or is it just me?

When I see my bandmates' hair bobbing up and down with their heads, when I imagine the feeling of being pushed around, kicked down, and physically and mentally abused online and offline, when I see images of battlefields and Viyetnawm and Eyeraq, I get the inspiration.

When I imagine blood coming out of Trey Azagtoth, I get the inspiration.

I am a fcuking wild animal on stage when I get inspired.  Red Horse is the fuel of my creations.

familiarize scales, bridge the chords/notes and work from there. explore bro. you will hear the off notes as you improvise  :-D
Some musicians may become a Yngwie Malmsteen, others maybe will become a humble Paul Gilbert.

ganyan nga ako dude. kasi, if you will just depend on scales, patterns, etc. You wont be different to other guitarists. kumbaga, yung scales na yan, patterns, etc. yan yung pagkakapantay pantay niyong mga musikero. tapos yung feeling, yung maghihiwahiwalay sa mga musicians. :)

learning/listening the major & minor scale, tapos sipra ng favorite song, pag nagawa mo na,
try mo jam/improvise, kahit sa buong kanta

hindi mo mapapansin nandun na yung improvement

next song...

walang katapusan, dagdag lang ng dagdag ng song, scales at build up ng feel

...tsalap ba yan?

melody. speed is useless without the melody.

it's not on the speed of your fingers. it's on the melody that can produce by your fingers.

Been playing for 25 years now. On all the comments above, all are correct just choose your own evil. Friend once told me all those years ago, "Hush, just listen and then play!".
