A member and I were talking about having a christmas party for Pinoy Drummers. Almost the same as the EB but no clinicians this time around. Its an open jam, You can bring a member or your whole band to jam with you. Play a song or two. I think it would be fun, what do you guys think???

A Pinoydrums Christmas Party is a great idea. I'll support that. Though as usual, I cannot guarantee yet my attendance because of gig skeds, lalo na at holiday peak season na for musicians next month. I can also invite some top professional drummers to join the fun.

Venue and date is still open for suggestions... Suggest lang kayo and kung may kilala kayo sa mga bars na ma-suggest, try nyo na itanong para malaman natin kung pwede. As much as possible, tayong lahat maghandle nito para mas masaya kasi effort nating lahat diba...

Dapat maghanap kaagad tayo ng venue at mag-set ng date, habang maaga. It might be difficult to book a venue during the Holidays... Alam naman natin, madami rin ang may mga planong mag-Christmas party.

The only problem would be the kit at Kulomn, malapit na mawasak yun hehehe...

That's a good date. Siguraduhin lang natin na walang makakabunggo na production on that date (just like what happened on the last Bass EB). Better kapag para sa Pinoydrums ang buong gabi.

Guys which do you think is better suited for us: Kulomn Bar or Purple Haze?
Kulomn Bar is spacious but the Gears are not that good anymore.
Purple Haze, No problem with the Gears but kinda small since its a two storey bar.
Suggest naman please. Need help to those who can help...

Bro maganda nga yun. Pmack and me also considered that but the problem is the neighbors. Malakas ang drums and it cannot be contained once evrybody starts jamming. Most of the time, limited ang oras sa bahay or covered court but sa bar is til morning pa ok. Yun nga lang its expensive. If someone can offer their place, with no hassles from anybody, then that would be the best place to held the party.

Hi drummers! its nice to be back! ayos to kasi never pa ko nakaattend ng EBs or parties ng pinoydrums. sana masettle na ang dates and details para naman maisingit na sa sked ko.
umm my gusto lang ako i-suggest... sana bawat member magpakita ng groove... yung tipong kahit 3 mins-up na drum solo para naman masaya! kahit di ganun kagaling basta ipakita nyo what you're made of...katuwaan lang... kung astig ang solo mo... astig...kung ok lang astig parin... kung hindi talaga...ASTIG PARIN! at least you have the heart!!!!

Venue? How about dun ulit sa Penguin Cafe? At least napagbigyan na tayo before. Baka pwede ulit pakiusapan. :-D

ano organizers??? ano na latest? malapit na 16 ah. nakakausap na ba kayo ng mga bars?

ok guys, eto suggestion ko.. kinonsult ko muna ito kay pmack bago i post dito.. eto talaga gusto ko i suggest nung una ko palang nabasa itong thread na ito..hehehe.
like what ive said earlier, bahay nalang sana.. well.. i can offer my place... ok eto setup ng bahay.. malaki balcony namin.. mga 5x5 meters.. and nandun din yung studio ko.. it can fit 2-3 drums set.. pero mas malaki sa rooftop namin! just above the studio.. it can fit 4-5 drumsets.. and maybe can accomodate 30-40 persons..( i think di naman ganun karami aatend sa EB).. we can jam until midnight or maybe extend a little bit.. pero.. kung gusto parin tuloy tuloy ang jam, we can use the studio and that can fit, 2-3 drumsets.. .. and mga band equipment ok narin.
im suggesting na house EB nalang para makamura tayo.. lalo na sa entrance, drink and foods... and syempre mas may freedom ang bawat isa diba..pero syempre konti tulong nalang para sa kuryente and equipments. hehehehe..
safe naman ang lugar namin.. and for sure walang magrereklamo.. eto lang.. location ko is cavite! hehehe. but! malapit lagn talaga. bacoor lang naman.. and mga 30mins away from manila place namin.. along aguinaldo hway lang kami, and 3-5mins from sm bacoor.. dont worry malapit lang talaga. hehehe.. ako nga lagi pumupunta sa manila walang reklamo. hehehe. and besides, para maiba naman. lagi nalang kasi sa manila.. feel nyo naman ang breeze ng probinsya.. heheheh..

-- transportation. is it easy to commute or find your place? would it be difficult to find a ride when comin from your place? how accessible is it to public transpo?
-- parking. is the place along a busy street or a quiet suburb where drummers with cars can park their ride? is it safe?
also, can you provide a map to your place, for example starting from edsa corner roxas blvd.

bro walang problema sa transpo. dami bus dito galing manila.. for example crow bus transport.. may station sila sa likod ng sogo hotel sa may taft.. just right below mrt taft station, katapat ng metropoint ba yun? meron din bus na galing monumento, which is jasper jeans bus.. lahat yan dadaan samin..pero i suggest, na mag mrt nalang then sakay sa crow bus.. gaganda pa ng bus nila dun.. lahat bago!
meron din mga galing lawton, san agustin, john and erlmark, vergara, etc.. alam ko may galing din sa buendia..
yung subdivision namin along national highway which is emilio aguinaldo Highway... so transportation is not a problem.. parking, walang problema.. we can park along the street.. meron din vacant lot na di masyado malayo that we can use for parking,
this is sa subdivision, nothing to worry bout this street being pass by public vehicles.. mga tricycle lang at private vehicles dumadaan.. yes i can provide map.. pero i drawing kopa.. madali lang hanapin from kanto.. super.. kung mag tricycle naman sabhin mo lang yung silver/diamond alam na nila yun..

This is a very good idea Agent So, Go na ako dito. Its cheaper than renting a bar, nice for you to offer your place. The only question now is food and who will offer another kit. 3 kits would be fine, palitan na lang.
I have suggestions, maybe you wanna consider this.
First is, para makatipid sa gastos, why dont we bring food. Isang type of food good for lets say, 10 persons. Mas maganda kung ganun eh.
Sagot ko na ang drinks... (sana walang malakas uminom dito hehehe...)
Next is Agent can you provide a map to your place??? Para mas madali sa may dalang car...
May kit na sa studio mo right? so i think we only need 1 more kasi may nag-offer na ng isa. Ano pa ba hmm... Let me think...
Para sa sure attendance dagdagan nyo na lang ang list na to, simulan ko na ok...

wow.. ayus 2., la pa bang venue? suggestion ko.. try nyo din sa caliente bar, very nice place at malaki, tapos may maganda na syang drumset.. A custom ride tapos 12 a hats, pearl drums, tapos malaki din ung stage.. kasya din tatlong drums..

Janelle, Caliente is a good place but how much will the bar fine be? Good place cost a lot. Kulomn I heard has a 15k bar fine... Ask mo naman kung pwede, thanks...

ok guys, eto suggestion ko.. kinonsult ko muna ito kay pmack bago i post dito.. eto talaga gusto ko i suggest nung una ko palang nabasa itong thread na ito..hehehe.
like what ive said earlier, bahay nalang sana.. well.. i can offer my place... ok eto setup ng bahay.. malaki balcony namin.. mga 5x5 meters.. and nandun din yung studio ko.. it can fit 2-3 drums set.. pero mas malaki sa rooftop namin! just above the studio.. it can fit 4-5 drumsets.. and maybe can accomodate 30-40 persons..( i think di naman ganun karami aatend sa EB).. we can jam until midnight or maybe extend a little bit.. pero.. kung gusto parin tuloy tuloy ang jam, we can use the studio and that can fit, 2-3 drumsets.. .. and mga band equipment ok narin.
im suggesting na house EB nalang para makamura tayo.. lalo na sa entrance, drink and foods... and syempre mas may freedom ang bawat isa diba..pero syempre konti tulong nalang para sa kuryente and equipments. hehehehe..
safe naman ang lugar namin.. and for sure walang magrereklamo.. eto lang.. location ko is cavite! hehehe. but! malapit lagn talaga. bacoor lang naman.. and mga 30mins away from manila place namin.. along aguinaldo hway lang kami, and 3-5mins from sm bacoor.. dont worry malapit lang talaga. hehehe.. ako nga lagi pumupunta sa manila walang reklamo. hehehe. and besides, para maiba naman. lagi nalang kasi sa manila.. feel nyo naman ang breeze ng probinsya.. heheheh..

This is a very good idea Agent So, Go na ako dito. Its cheaper than renting a bar, nice for you to offer your place. The only question now is food and who will offer another kit. 3 kits would be fine, palitan na lang.
I have suggestions, maybe you wanna consider this.
First is, para makatipid sa gastos, why dont we bring food. Isang type of food good for lets say, 10 persons. Mas maganda kung ganun eh.
Sagot ko na ang drinks... (sana walang malakas uminom dito hehehe...)
Next is Agent can you provide a map to your place??? Para mas madali sa may dalang car...

Una sa lahat, wala nang gastos sa lugar (siguro para sa kuryente lang).
Pangalawa, sacrifice lang ng onte yung byahe, di ganun kalayo ang place mo.
Pangatlo, mas makakamura kung kanya kanya tayo ng dala ng food for lets say 10 people, tapos halo-halo na dun. Mas family ang feeling ng ganun eh and Pinoy Drummers is one big happy family diba. Wala namang pwersahan pero mas maganda kung alam na natin kung sino magdadala. PM nyo na lang sakin kung sino interested magdala ng food.
Suggestion naman, mas maaga natin to madesisyunan, mas mapapaganda ang plano...

i pass through bacoor all the time (taga-sangley point cavite gf ko) coming from QC. parang manila or QC rin ang mga kalsada nila. and pag pauwi, marami naman tayo malamang sabay-sabay din kaya ok lang.

last night nag-usap kami ni dacs. december 9 sila libre, that's a saturday din
di naman daw sa pera-pera kaso gusto lang daw niya maka-sure sa kikitain ng bar that night. may 200 per head na enrance fee, pero fully consumable naman daw. meaning, para clarify ko lang, na for example, 30 pesos ang isang beer, tapos umorder ka ng 5 beers edi 150 pesos na yun. may 50 pesos worth ka pa na pwede mong pangpulutan o pang isa pang beer. sa atin din mapupunta yung binayad natin na "entrance" kumbaga. yung binayad mo sa entrance, yun na rin ang pang-inom mo (wag lang sosobra sa 200, hehehe).
if ever, meron bang master jan na magmamagandang loob na magbibigay ng maikling clinic? kung meron man, di pa pasok sa 200 yung fee nung clinician. and also, ok pa ba magdala ng banda? kailangan kasi natin ng bilang kung ilan ang banda na tutugtog. kung ok magdala ng banda, count my band in. sana may iba pa na kakanta lang kahit mga 1-2 songs lang, pampainit before the drum jam.
anyways, ayan yung napag-usapan namin. and kung ok sa inyong lahat, sana post niyo dito para masabi na natin sa haze ng maaga, may kakompetensya kasi tayo para sa date na yun eh. pero medyo malakas naman tayo dun (i think) so baka i-hold pa nila until monday para sa pinoydrummers.

Ticket: 200 pesos / FULLY consumable on food and drinks... (This is just a bar guarantee, not really entrance fee. May 200 pesos worth of food and/or drinks na per head. Para busog tayong lahat.)

So far, there are still 2 band slots open and 2 bands we're waiting for confrimation from. To those who want to play, kindly say so.
And so far drummer Sandy Baliong has confirmed he will have a clinic on alternative music drumming. We are also in the process of convincing another drummer to have a clinic.
If you have any suggestions as to who else we could invite to have a clinic, feel free to post. As long as they don't mind doing it pro bono because we're all doing this just for the fun of it.
We ask for your help, those who can lend their kit for that night. We already have one kit na courtesy of our good drum brother Tristan Dullate. We're still hammering out the details as to how to get the kit there, but it's all good. We only need one more.
Please inform us who will be able to come to the said party so we could further assess the party plans, thanks...

With all this talk of clinicians and bands performing, medyo na sidetrack ng konti ang original reason kung bakit namin naisipan mag-organize ng party: the pinoydrums brotherhood.
So instead of a certain drummer giving a clinic, we decided to make it the "Pinoydrums Sharing Sessions" as part of the Pinoydrums Christmas EB.
It will be an event wherein drummers can share to other drummers what they know. Anyone can ask questions, anyone can share their opinions, anyone can demonstrate his or her own licks and philosophies about playing the drums and music in general. We thought the term "drum clinic" or "clinician" intimidated alot of good drummers who WE feel na maraming pwedeng ma-share sa iba. And also, when we read or hear the term "drum clinic" we think of an award winning, world-touring kind of a drummer. Not the ones na nakikila natin through forums or through other bands. We are trying to change all that.
Of course we will still have a handful of drummers sharing what they know about a certain genre of music or pratice rituals, but we are all in this together. Lahat tayo clinicians. Lahat tayo audience members. Lahat tayo pwedeng maging teachers while still being students. And of course, we all wanna have fun while doing all of this diba? :-D
So, please bear with us and this crazy concept of ours.
We will post the complete programme as soon as possible.
Tuloy na tuloy ito so don't even bother to make any other plans on December 9, 2006...

Here is the steps in going to Purple Haze Bar if you are coming from the South:
If you are riding a bus going to Cubao Ibabaw;
Go down at Cubao and go to Aurora Blvd.,
Ride a jeep or FX, which ever you prefer, and go down at Morato, it will only take you a few minutes cause its near already.
When you're at Morato already, it will a steps ayaw from the corner. And you are there...
If you are riding an FX going Lawton;
At Lawton, ride a jeep or FX, which ever you prefer again, take the one going to Cubao,
At E.Rodriguez Ave, go down at Morato, cross the street and its a few steps na lang from the corner...
If you are Going down at Edsa;
The best and fastest way is to ride the MRT but if you frefer the bus its your choice hehehe...
When you get to Cubao, its the same as the one on top...

to make the event even more conducive for jamming, we were planning to put up 3 kits on the stage. their is already a house kit on haze and their is also our fellow pinoydrummer xalanx offering to bring along his kit. now i'll be bringing cymbals to augment xalanx' kit. there's still the question of who will bring the 3rd kit.
the committee would like to request for help from the kit owners out there who are willing to share their gear for the EB night.
if you are willing to bring in your kit but dont have transportation, let us know so we can arrange one for your pickup and return trips.

Just like what we did in the EB last June, drummers can simply bring their drum gear which are for sale/trade. Pero personal responsibility na yan ng mga buyers and sellers. Walang kinalaman ang mga organizers at ang Purple Haze dyan. :-D
Maybe we can put up a paper with a list of items for sale/trade, and the name of the person offering it, just like what we did before. If there's anybody interested, they can just check out that list.

I'll be arriving a little late, around 9pm. May family dinner lang kami sa bahay. Anyway I don't live too far away from Purple Haze.

this is an event for all the drummers ng pilipinas.
maaaring tatlo kaming nag-organize, pero sa atin lahat ito.
lahat pwede mag-share.
lahat pwede magtaas ng kamay kung may gustong sabihin o kung may gustong tanungin. so far, medyo mas prefer namin na walang official "programme" para mas spontaneous ang dating. pero syempre due to time constraints, gumawa pa rin kami ng simple schedule kumbaga pero nothing official.
me, peeves and suspendead together with bam0120, xalanx, miggleness, and a few others will be there sa haze mga 5-6pm para magset-up ng 2 kits. para when the doors open before 8PM, handa na lahat ng kits.
ang dami kong kakilalang excited na dito sa event natin. hehehe....

I plan to start my spot by showing you guys how I tune and tweak my snare drum. Bro bangbus and I were having a chat on YM one time, and he suggested that I should share some tuning tips. Well, I don't really consider myself as an ultra-techy guy when it comes to tuning drums, but I'll try to share some of the methods and tricks that I do, and I hope you can get something out of it.
After that, I'll go on and play some drums. Bro xalanx sent me a PM, requesting for some groovy stuff. So, okay, I'll do some groove drumming. I also wish to share some of my thoughts regarding groove, feel, shuffle, swing, and being a musical drummer. I hope that what I'll be sharing can be helpful, and hopefully you guys would be able to take it to the next level.

I was around for Dio's portion... akala ko I'd be really late by 11pm but it was just starting! Hayup pumalo si Dio but his other talent of course is the clear way he explains everything. Hindi lang pala online, but in person as well. Pro na pro ang dating. Re: the samples, The r&B examples were good but the best part I think the was free-flowing warm up that went from swing to hiphop.
As for the comments na "nakakabingi" ganun talaga sa Haze, hehe. Next jam I go to I'll wear earplugs. There's an open jam there usually every Monday organized by BAMF so you get to jam with the guys from the Guitar Central forum and the Bass Place.

Sinimulan ni Sandy na dinala na halos lahat ang instruments at mega speakers nya. Pinaalala nya sa lahat kung ano ang ROCK music.
Tapos sumunod si Dennis at ang band nya, first jam nila kagabi. Maluha luha kami nung mga panahong ito kasi iniihaw yung barbeque ni Gep. Lahat ng tao naging singkit, pero solid pa rin ang paghataw ni Dennis kahit napapapikit na sya.
Sabay pumalo si Pao M kasama ang mga talentadong gitarista (sya ba yugn nasa MTV dati?) at yung jack-of-all-trades bahista na nanggaling pa ng Baguio, si Oneil
Next si Anthony Dio. Nagulat na lang kami at baklas ang snare nya... kaya naman pala, magbibigay ng tips on how to tune the snare drum. Sobrang dami ng nagaabang ng ganitong lesson. Merong nag-video, sana i-release soon. After ng mabilisang pag-assemble ng snare drum, ready to rumble na si Dio at nag-play along sa ilang slow but groovy tracks ni Jeff Porcaro. Bow kami sa kanya!
Last but not the least, ang sagutang JP at Bea. Umupo si JP sa trono nyang Pearl kit at si Bea sa Gretch kit. Sang dosenang Sabian cymbals ang naka-display, ready for abuse. Bow naman ako kay Bea, ang galing nya! Lahat ng licks ni JP nagagawa ni Bea, maliban sa desperation move ni JP. Napatunayan ni Bea na hindi lamang pan-lalake ang drumming.

Thank you very much to the organizers of our Christmas EB, especially to the Paolos (pmack and peeves) and Dennis (suspendead). Thank you to Purple Haze. Thank you to those who provided and shared their equipment. Thank you to everybody who attended the event. I had a great time. Masaya ang EB! Mauulit!
Thank you also to our Admin Mr. Jim Ayson for being able to drop by. Sayang we forgot to acknowledge your presence. But we're glad you took the time to drop by.
I also want to thank everybody who appreciated my spot during the EB. Though I thought that I could have done better, I hope that what I was able to share can become helpful to you.

heeeya.....thumbs up for the organizers of this xmas party..you guys rock!!!....bea and i enjoyed pounding on the drums in front of you guys...the two song drum duet we played is the result of a 3 hours practice haha..kaya the only choice we have left is to enoy and trip on the drumset..hope yoou guys enjoyed it too...thanks also for giving me the chance to talk and share to you guys about our passion for drumming..and yes we are very passionate with our craft....it feels good to share with you guys some drum tips, im just sorry if i was slow already that time maybe it was the fault of too much red horse...hahaha...i was with my best drinking buddy which is my tatay..hehe..bea and i are now excited to see some pics and videos of the xmas party...

Nakakabingi.. pero ang saya kagabi, kahit medyo nilalagnat na ako. Ang galing galign sobra ng mga tumugtog!
Sinimulan ni Sandy na dinala na halos lahat ang instruments at mega speakers nya. Pinaalala nya sa lahat kung ano ang ROCK music.
Tapos sumunod si Dennis at ang band nya, first jam nila kagabi. Maluha luha kami nung mga panahong ito kasi iniihaw yung barbeque ni Gep. Lahat ng tao naging singkit, pero solid pa rin ang paghataw ni Dennis kahit napapapikit na sya.
Sabay pumalo si Pao M kasama ang mga talentadong gitarista (sya ba yugn nasa MTV dati?) at yung jack-of-all-trades bahista na nanggaling pa ng Baguio, si Oneil
Next si Anthony Dio. Nagulat na lang kami at baklas ang snare nya... kaya naman pala, magbibigay ng tips on how to tune the snare drum. Sobrang dami ng nagaabang ng ganitong lesson. Merong nag-video, sana i-release soon. After ng mabilisang pag-assemble ng snare drum, ready to rumble na si Dio at nag-play along sa ilang slow but groovy tracks ni Jeff Porcaro. Bow kami sa kanya!
Last but not the least, ang sagutang JP at Bea. Umupo si JP sa trono nyang Pearl kit at si Bea sa Gretch kit. Sang dosenang Sabian cymbals ang naka-display, ready for abuse. Bow naman ako kay Bea, ang galing nya! Lahat ng licks ni JP nagagawa ni Bea, maliban sa desperation move ni JP. Napatunayan ni Bea na hindi lamang pan-lalake ang drumming.
Salamat pala sa mga organizers, especially to Pao Vivas. Sya yung technician, photographer, delivery guy, provider ng gamit, lahat na! Salamat din kay Waybine (thanks sa sticks. hehe) at Darkus Case para sa prizes .

Like what I said before the open jam, our special surprise guest should have been the great Benjie Mendez a.k.a. Bagets. Kaya lang he wasn't able to make it because he got drunk that night. I believe his mother-in-law paid him a visit hehe!

i agree on this.. mahirap talaga ang timing ng mababagal.. when i was trainee sa church before eto lagi naririnig ko na mahirap ang mga mababagal like worship songs.. unlike kapag mabilis medyo matatakpan mo pa mga mali mo.. pero masarap tugtugin mga mababagal na songs kasi nandun yung feel at groove.. mahirap nga lang.. lalo na yung mga bagsak... IMHO

Thanks bro Paolo! I've been really working hard on my left hand for years. It all began with my grunge influences, when I discovered ghost notes and learned how to play them. Later on, I discovered masters like Steve Gadd and Jeff Porcaro, who not only play excellent ghost note licks, but also made them feel oh-so-good! Much later, I had a workshop with senyor Mar Dizon. Thanks to him, he refined my playing; making sure that I play ghost notes more evenly and more musically, and in respect to the subdivision of notes.

Thanks bro! I have to admit, di pa rin ako sanay magsalita on a microphone (which was more evident on EB3). Just like drumming, konting practice pa. Mismo yung drumkit mo. Salamat uli! Nuod kayo minsan ng gigs namin.

Hey bro! Slow music is challenging to play, but once we get it right, sarap talaga. Adding to feel and groove, it's also about empathy. It's about expressing the right feelings and emotions, based on the music. Besides having the right feel in terms of drumming, we should also feel the music and its meaning, and the things that our bandmates play. A true musician is a sensitive and expressive artist.

Thanks for appreciating, bro! To be frank, I don't have a normal practice routine right now. I'm saving up for a quality drumkit, and all I have is my practice pad which helps keep my fire burning. Plus, plenty of research (thanks to the internet) and constant listening and appreciation of different kinds of music. Sige minsan mag-sharing tayo. Thanks!

yeah, actually mas prefer ko pa tumugtog na slow music kesa sa mabibilis.. like worship songs kesa sa praise.. ang sarap talaga ng feeling kapag slow mga tinutugtog mo.. kaya ngayon mas nagugustuhan ko mga r&b and smooth jazz.. dati medyo rock tinutugtug ko.. pero mas enjoy na ako sa slow, na ma-groove and ma-feel.. yeah tama ka bro.. expression yan ng nararamdaman mo... though parang simple lang mga slow music, pero tama ka challenging.. basta masarap! heheheh
