waaa! you guys are taking my point all wrong! 

to make things much much much clearer:

i have nothing against his playing/motives/form of expression of worship. diversity  in forms is not a problem as long as we use it for God's greater glory. i know he's THAT good and im pretty much sure that he has the right motives and a worshipful heart.

my point is through the perspective of the audience/worshippers, does the showy stuff of Mr. Brewster interfere their worship? the element of anticipation is inevitable, sometimes when you know that the player is good, you just tend to stare at his playing right?

i think cumbersome got my point and made an interesting remark.

so, what d'ya think guys?

Regarding medyo showy stuff ni Brewster, yes medyo nakaka-destruct nga, kasi meron dito sa amin, actually magaling talaga siya sa improvisation, kaso there are times na OA na or sobra or hindi bagay sa song. hehe

Actually nakakasawa yung sound and tone niya. (referring to the local guy)

I'm one Lincoln Brewster fan here - in skills and in his tones, even the way he expresses his love for God.
Oo, napakahusay niyang musikero sa Lord as of the present because that's what I know God created him to be... Dati na syang musician sa world, it just turned out that he has to offer it back again to God...
May be ang mali lang ng iba ay di pa sila gaanong focused on worshipping the Lord that's why amazed sila sa kapapanood sa kanya when he's doing his adlib parts. Wala tayong magagawa, kanta niya yun para sa Lord eh at isa syang GITARISTA - Shredding for the glory of God. Don't compare him to others who doesn't play like him... Sa pagwo-worship sa Lord, kanya-kanya pa rin tayong expression, ok?
Well, just want to share this that I got a chance to sing Lincoln's 'All to You' in our own language. Mas lalong lumalim ang pagkaunawa ko sa kantang ito nung nai-translate ko ito while I was driving. Click na lang link sa ibaba for you to see and hear. May be you want to write and sing it too for God's glory.

if that's the case, then whose glory is it? sa Panginoon ba o sa gitarista na? diba to God be all the glory, honor & praise? Kahit 1% lang na naa agaw ang glory sa Lord, that ain't right.

to quote mr. cumbersome: “If we can't focus enough on God such that a little tasty guitar lick interferes with our worship, then there might be something in us that need more work, too.”
 
It's a privilege to be a part of the P&W team. However we also have a lot of responsibility that goes w/ that privilege. A "tasty guitar lick" here & there may be ok, but if you tend to solo ala Pettrucci , that's when the focus of the worshipers starts to get distracted. buti sana kung shreader lahat ng congregation 

thing is, we should be "sensitive" enough to know how to "set the mood" according to the members of the church. Music can often touch people in a way that a sermon/word can't. It bypasses intellectual barriers & take the message straight to the heart. It is a potent tool for evangelism.

I would suggest also that every one fm. the music team should read chapter 15
( Selecting your Music ) of the book "Purpose Driven Church" by Rick Warren. I always quote fm. this whenever i give workshops for P&W teams. It's a must...


so, what d'ya think guys? 

my 2 cents worth... be sensitive w/ the members of your congregation, kapag mga "oldies" at conservative sila, mga Don Moen lang or Hillsongs na mellow... yung masasakyan lang nila...

ngayon kung youth based naman yung service, hala, sige, apakan mona yung turbo overdrive o Metal zone mo at umadlib kna ng Yngwie, Vai o Petrucci! (pero dapat nababagay din sa song), at wala namang 15 minute solo ala Zakk Wilyd o Mangusteen. 

 kung ako MD sa banda ni Lincoln at mga senior citizens yung congregation, poposasan ko siya  On the other hand, pag youth service, o P&W convention, ako mismo magla lagay sa diyes yung volume ng Amp niya!

i'm not totally disagreeing with the point that Lincoln could be distracting. But yun ang expression ng worship nya eh. Showy sya. Kumbaga eh sa mga worshippers may mga mas showy at nagtataas ng kamay, lumuluhod at nakapatirapa. at meron namang tahimik lang na kumakanta. syempre medyo nakakadistract ung showy. pero ang audience lang naman eh si Lord. kung nasa puso naman ng showy un eh di pleasing sa Lord un. ganun din sa hindi showy.

on the other hand, yung christian guitarist's thread was started by wannabeguitarist on oct, 2007. the most recent topics were Planetshakers, Sonicflood concert, Lincoln Brewster (masaya 'to) at siempre, pinag u-usapan parin yung october praise paging kurtcobainer...
