like one time, bumalik ako sa alma mater ko nung highschool para manuod ng musicfest (battle of the bands) then i see some students na grabe ambibilis ng kamay!! pero, wala naman naiintindihan :| :| kasi people tend to show-off kahit na alam nila na hindi talaga nila kayang gawin ung isang bagay..   :|

I think hinde. Yung kung baka he has his own unique way of playing di yung ginagaya lang sa iba.

Speed is a tool in a guitarist's arsenal.  But you can't have it without practicing.  The best guitarists are very versatile, so they could express themselves through their music in a wider variety of ways.

IMO, most good guitarists have speed at their disposal.  If they don't, they make up for it in other aspects of their playing.

tama, speed is only a tool!

What?!
Di ko nalagyan ng dash.. Sowe..

Pinaka-susi is what I mean. Di lang sa speed diba? So yung key para mameasure ka if you're magaling is your accuracy and linis ng pagtugog, then your originality and pagiging innovative..

Speed is just a slice, not the whole pizza.

My example: George Harrison of the Beatles is way much better than Yngwie Malmsteen. Yung mga guitar licks niya...immortal. Just listen to his solo on the song Something and you'll get the point.

if you use speed you can do many solo's..because there are solo's that out of this world..and it is easy for you to learn new lesson..

IMHO---No.
but when you say "measure", it will now depend on how you define "best".

for me, other parameters to consider are as follows:
-tone
-phrasing/feel
-creativity

ano pa ba...?  yan muna.   :-D

speed only as a measure of the best?

nope. its a measure of velocity.

but in a drag race, on the autobahn, and in a food eating competition, it certainly is.

+1000 Master :-D.Never was it taught to me as my aim to learn guitar, instead playing right was more imphasized. :-D

for me its a no! no!

its surely is hard to play as fast as yngwie malmsteen or buckethead
or michael angelo batio......
but for me the sense or the significance of the song is more important
its a given fact that fast is good, but the creeps that you can give to your listeners would be better.......
