Snare Drum Tuning
« Reply #175 on: July 01, 2008, 01:47:57 PM »
I usually tune my snares tightly (snare side is a bit tighter than the batter side).

Kayo po ba? Ano preference niyo sa pagtono ng snare drums niyo?

Meron kasi akong maple piccolo snare ngayon, ano po sa tingin niyo ang bagay na tuning for this one? Should I loosen up the snare side head? I'd like the sound to be in the popping sound type and not the cracking ones.

ahm, bro gento yan. depende kasi yan sa type ng tunog na gusto mo. kung tunog bakal at parang walang snare. try to use snare mutes. available sa lazer yun, mura lang 420 ata buong set (12" 13" 14" 16" 22") then try to higpitan yung snare wires . meron kasing mga tension rods yan sa gilid, iba naman tornilyo. bsta dapat laging nasa gitna ung snare wires or strainers then higpitan mo na with the help of throw of.

yun lang tips ko. try to use din ng metronome. ang batterhead always c# at reso side sa A. ayun daw yung basic tunning from boypalo. =-D

enjoy drumming!

at which do you prefer, piccolo o black panther snares?

maraming salamat!!!

syempre the head always matter. pili ka yung magandang class na, tapos If I'm not mistaken, yung kapal din snare ay nakakaapekto.

mga sir. newby question lang po if i may.

kasi i've been reading this thread from the start and pansin ko lang, in order to achieve a particular sound (tune) ang paglalaruan mo yung heads and yung snare wires.

so does this mean if i have two snares with the same dimensions and same method of tuning was applied, magiging pareho din ang sound?

kasi, i'm trying to figure out, how does one decide in choosing a snare, particularly on choosing signature snares (yung mga super mahal type)?
does signature snares have their own unique sound (as in unique sa kanila lang no matter what amount of tuning is applied)?

un ang mura eh... ung encore coated... effect sa sound? ung TAMA ko mas naging fat ang tunog...(parang pok)... ung mapex naman naging fat na parang may pagka ringy kahit na wood snare sya... so far un lang ang naobserve ko... i like the sound though...

does signature snares have their own unique sound (as in unique sa kanila lang no matter what amount of tuning is applied)?

ano pang reason para gumawa sila ng steel, brass, maple, mahogany, hammered steel?

its like wood absorbs more sound than steel. and i thinks IMO steel snares are more aggressive. (if im right)

kasi sir iba ibang characteristics ang binibigay ng snares depending sa materials na ginamit at . they may be on the same tune/ pitch but different in character. kumbaga parehong mataas tung tono. im finding it hard to explain now so here...
compare this vids of 2 snares, a wood and a steel showing low to high tuning
bp hammered steel:
bp deep forest walnut snare:
feature=related

di ko sure kung tama ako pero yung ibang sig snares, looks lang naiba pero same materials.
