Well David is living in LA now so while he's there he's in a band with Basti and Wolf called Lokomotiv.  :wink:

i'd say:

jack rufo...great solo lines on the songs of neocolours...
noel mendes....if you heard his piece on "RULE OF THE GUITAR" compilation...ira cruz played as well...but i think those two were the greatest!!!!
there was this praise album i think, entitled "the air i breathe" if i remember correctly, the 2 played there too...great!!!!

there are loads more out there!!!

Wala pa akong nakitang pinoy na gitaristang kasing galing ni Jhun Enriquez! Kahit pa namayapa siya ngayon.

Saan ka makakakitang gitarista na ang lahat ng myembro niya ay de-nota siya lang ang di' nagbabasa pero alam lahat iyong mga pyesa na tinutugtog nila? Ang galing talaga! Sa pag-gitara ko ng halos 27yrs na ngayon eh si Jhun Enriquez palang ang biniliban kong pinoy na gitarista na nakita ko sa Pilipinas.

i want to mention yung guitarista ng pedro's cannabis, yung mataba wala lang, hindi naman siya ganun siguro kagalingan, pero natuwa kasi ako sa kanya nung tinugtog nila yung "alive" sa st. paul qc... dati pa yun, mga 1995-97... biro mo para matugtog nila yon at that time... wala lang yun lang... ngayon kasi tumaas na taste ko eh... peace!

come to think of it, there are guitarists that came after teddy who matters, and i'm so blessed to be playing with them...so drumroll please... it's cool2ny & kamots, two of the most unassuming but wicked guitarists i've heard...watch out for them...remember, you read it here first... :twisted:

bro, carlo sison (sake, true faith) was the guitarist for hardware syndrome which was francism's band for the freeman album. perf de castro & noel mendez also played additional guitars. peborit song ko dun e, "3 stars & a sun", lupit ng lead!!! if i'm not mistaken, carlo is still francism's lead  guitarist together with a new kid named kenji. peace! 8)

mr. mendez co-wrote "funky monkey" & "puso ng siga" with mr. magalona & laid down some funky guitarwork on those songs too. :wink:

For me it's Teddy Diaz, one of Pinoy rocks greatest loss! Also in my mind is Noel Mendez, I was able to work with him in some session tracks for commercial jingles. ANd of course Perf deCastro, I've known Perf since he was first learning to play the guitar. He put his heart into his craft, kaya ang galing niya!!

1.) Francis Reyes of The Dawn - versatility and the notes he chooses when doing a guitar solo
2.) Ira Cruz of Bamboo - versatility (Jazz, Blues and Rock etc!)

My vote goes to PERF DE CASTRO.

One time, we were able to watch Triaxis at Mayric's.  It was already a good show with their songs but what topped it all was when he did this amazing guitar solo.  

While in the middle of this solo, his left fretting hand continued doing his hammer-ons and pull-offs during which his right hand took a cigarette from a pack on the table in front of him, then took a lighter and proceeded to light the stick... all along while doing clean pentatonic runs with his left hand.

What the... ?!   :shock:   I was completely blown away by his performance.  

I've been trying to do that (doing runs on my left hand will doing another with my picking hand) ever since but without success hehe...

1. Noel Mendez (the most versatile pinoy guitar player i've ever played with. Listen to his guitar works in FrancisM's albums "Freeman" and "Happy Battle")

2. Jack Rufo (for his blazing Holdsworth-legato style solos)

3. Janno (students of both Noel Mendez and Jack Rufo; very versatile also; scary)

i wouldn't say he's the best, but he's got to be one of the most interesting guitarists out there. he comes up with interesting textures and sounds with his guitars. yes, i'm talking about Jerome Velasco (formerly of teeth/daydream cycle/the mongols). he's got to be one of the most underrated guitarists in the country. does anyone here in the forums know if he's still active in the music scene? not as a producer/engineer etc but as an actual musician. i'm a really big fan of his work and would love to know of his current activities in the music scene.

btw, please don't mention "laklak", its got to be teeth's most popular song but we've all got to admit that it's not their greatest work. it sounds like a bunch of 5 year olds playing guitar. it would be in tracks such as "princesa", "darating", and "dogs can fly" could you see the genius in his guitar work. it reminds me of  mudhoney and dinosaur jr. very loosely played and quite slack in his soloing, but that's what makes him so fun to listen to.

for true pinoy rock and roll, i would have to say that the Llamas brothers (Mark Jerome and Rexander Joseph of the Jeffrey Aquino Band) should be up there in the list of the greatest guitarists (and bassist respectively) that the country has ever produced. They are the last bastion of rock for this country. true soulful masters of the instrument. Hendrix returns as a pinoy in their hands.

Noel Mendez - his single album with Hayp is enough to put him on the list, regardless of what he has done since.

Dave Aguirre - whether live or in the studio, this guy kills...

Francis Reyes - I will be upfront here (well, you can see my name up there, can't you?). Kiko is more technical and fitting for The Dawn than their legendary "first" guitarist. His only fault was that he didn't "die" but he can floor everyone in the rock scene now. Everyone.

Anybody else remember a guy named Noli Aurillo, used to be around the scene late '80s, early '90s?  No idea what ever happened to him, but that guy could play, and had a style all his own...

lupit nga ni Noli, very unique style... Some time ago every Monday siya sa Route 196, di ko lang sigurado kung yun pa rin ang sked...

has anybody mentioned Gabe Ascalon? malufet mag gitara yan! mapa Rock o Jazz, Lufet niyan... back in the mid 80's maka jam ko si Gabe... naubusan ako ng iskala :-D :lol: :lol:... pero mabait yang si Gabe. Naka based na nga lang sa Bacolod ( Prawn Farming)... I have a student who bought 3 PRS & 2 Gibson LPs  fm Gabe... Tele na trip ni Gabe lately...
