Saw this in other forums, Na-intriga ako sa topic!
They say that the patina's what makes the cymbal age, giving it a new tone and sound. Napapansin ko nga rin talaga na a cymbal does sound much more darker and richer as it ages, some prefer this, siguro mostly Jazz drummers, kasi mas nagbleblend na talaga yung tunog nung cymbal. Plus we should never underestimate the power of the stick, nagmemellow yung cymbal dahil lumalambot kahit papaano yung alloy nung cymbals over time due to hitting, ano sa tingin niyo?
After cleaning cymbals, I also do notice that it begins to sound brighter again, siguro kasi yung mga dirt na nastuck sa mga grooves nung cymbal nawala na? so mas madami ng vibrations and attack. Bumabalik yung shimmer! Mas loud na siya ulet.
I always hated that "new cymbal" sound, mas prefer ko yung "aged/darker" sound it produces after time. Just wanted to get your insights mga sir. Let's make this a fun and interesting topic. Thanks!
