I had my old Prolink h9200 modem replaced by globelines because it was f**ked.  Now I want to use it with my router.  The new Aztech DSL605E has a local IP address 192.168.1.1, while my Linksys WRT54G Router's is 192.168.5.1.

When plugging the modem directly to a laptop's LAN port, the connection is perfect.  But when connected to the router, I can't connect to the net.

Can anyone tell me how to configure either peripherals?  Screenshots most welcome.  Thanks in advance!

kinuha ba ng globelines yung mac address ng laptop mo nung nagconfigure sila ng modem or straight replacement lang ng modem ang ginawa nila? kasi kung kinuha nila yung mac address, might be na yung modem will not recognize your linksys router dahil iba mac address nito. try mo i-clone yung mac address ng lancard mo sa linksys router

Thanks randymarsh!

1) go to the wrt54g settings page also 192.168.1.1 by default (username: <blank> password: admin)
2) choose static IP with the following details:
IP - 192.168.1.5
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
static DNS 1 - 192.168.1.1
3) change local address to 192.168.0.1
4) disable DHCP server on the wrt54g
5) save settings.

now connect the h9200 to a LAN port of the wrt54g (NOT THE ONE USUALLY FOR INTERNET). Configure your computer to automatically detect ip and dns settings and either connect to one of the other lan ports on the wrt54g or conect wirelessly
Napalitan din yung h9200 namin with the aztec recently.  I find that the procedure above still works (quoted from TipidPC forums).  Remember to set your security first (SSID, Encryption).

Setting up the WRT54G with Globe is really a pain in the ass!  Especially my first time around.  Hope you get it done skunkyfunk.   :-)

wala akong screenshots eh pero i'll give you detailed instructions.

okay, given na ang IP ng modem is 192.168.1.1 ganito ang gagawin natin.

1. connect your laptop first to the linksys router alone. router and laptop only. then access the page :
192.168.5.1 using your browser.

2. i checked your modem's model number and found out that its also a modem router. meaning, that device alone can provide multiple ip addresses to accomodate all computers that will connect to the network. so since wireless ang kailangan mo for your laptop we will configure your linksys router as a wireless switch.

3. i'm sure you've already configured the wireless settings of the router including its security, ssid and channel. go under the set-up tab under basic set-up and disable the DHCP server. this function will allow the Aztech modem/router to be the gateway of your network.

4. still under the same page, change the LAN IP address to 192.168.1.2. then click on save settings. the reason we changed it is for you to be able to access both of the devices at the same time w/o the need to connect the computer to each device you just need to type their respective IP addresses since they are on the same IP segment.

example is if you want to change some settings in the Aztech modem just key in : 192.168.1.1

for the Linksys : 192.168.1.2 (say you want to change the name of your network or SSID etc.)

5. after saving all the settings, disconnect your laptop from your Linksys and run a cable from any LAN port of the Aztech modem to any LAN port of the Linksys router. make sure the corresponding lights are lit.

6. from your laptop, try to connect to the wireless network which is the name of the wireless signal that you named, then once its connected check your ip address, the IP address should be in a range of 192.168.1.100 or above. see if you can go online. if yes, then its done.

double check if your laptop is able to see both devices by going to the command prompt and type :

ping (space) 192.168.1.1  then hit enter - aztech modem

ping (space) 192.168.1.2 - linksys router

if both of them get 4 replies, that means that your laptop is able to see both devices and you are good to go.

if it doesn't work, call me i'm here at the office from 10PM to 7AM. 4238764 just look for gian.

I decided to put Octagon's customer support to good use. Hindi ko na talaga maayos yung connection ko, even with michiko_airashii's instructions. I couldn't access 192.168.1.1.

So today.. I went to Octagon (the store I bought WRT54G from), and came home with a brand-new router.. a Linksys WRT54G2. New version lang nung older router ko.. and wala akong dinagdag. Total product replacement talaga.

Ayun, I was able to connect to the internet almost instantly. So far so good.

connect the computer directly to the linksys router and change the LAN IP address to 192.168.2.1 then save settings. then connect a cable from the LAN port of the modem to the Internet port of the Linksys. connect your computer to any LAN port.open internet explorer then open 192.168.2.1 then look for mac address clone subtab under set-up. click enable then save settings. check the status tab of the router, you should get an IP address of 192.168.1.1.

When plugging the modem directly to a laptop's LAN port, the connection is perfect.  But when connected to the router, I can't connect to the net.
Skunkyfunk,

I think if you could connect to the internet before, the modem is fine.  It's the router settings you have to configure.  Try resetting the router (hold the small dot of a button behind it for about 15 seconds).  Then connect your pc or laptop to it.  Go to 192.168.1.1 to see it's settings.  For WRT54G, the default user name is <admin>, then password is <password>.

Then,

Quote
1) go to the wrt54g settings page also 192.168.1.1 by default (username: <blank> password: admin)
2) choose static IP with the following details:
IP - 192.168.1.5
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.1
static DNS 1 - 192.168.1.1

That's what I did, at least.  If this works for you, and web pages start loading, you should reset the router again to set the security parameters.  Because I find that once the settings above are applied, I couldn't go to the router settings again.

i wonder why the user thecoolcat11's post doesn't appear here but he said that the last instructions i posted worked for his router..

siore

the reason why you can't access the router anymore is because you have DHCP disabled, your modem is the one giving your computer the IP address that it needs in 192.168.1.xxx format, since you changed you router's Local Ip address to 192.68.0.1 you won't be able to connect to it because they are not on the same subnet.

skunky, i checked your lasts posts from your profile to see what you posted because for some reason i can't see it here.

if you can go online with the modem alone, then there's no problem with its configuration. its either you need to upgrade your firmware or you have a bad router.
