well Ive been in lots of bands in the past playing in schools and events for office.
Well the best was during college we would play in this All- Gurl school, kahit lang bayad ok na... fud nalang tinitira at busog sa mata:p   :twisted:

Well the motto "For the love of the Game, Money and Fame" doesnt apply all the time.

It's rock n roll, its all Love and passion.

nung tumutugtog pa ako dati nung 90's madalas mga school events, mga concerts like rock against drugs, mga tugtugan sa UP etc. wala kaming bayad :(  ewan ko lang pano sistema ngayon.  

parang ang binabayaran lang yata DATI either showband or signed artists like color it red, e-heads, etc.

pero ok lang naman dahil masaya na kaming tumugtog non. playing is the reward itself.

pero parang mali e... kasi ginagastusan din naman yung mga gamit like strings, cables, pamasahe, etc.  pero ganon talaga e :(

You're damn right...kahit walang pera sa banda, basta masaya kayo as a group.

i'm playing for a Christian band, so we usually play for free. libre kain lang. that's my way of putting the talent that God has given me into good use. di play for pay yun, play for God :)

mga ka-tol, magiiba ang mga pananaw ninyong lahat kapag humirap na ang buhay ninyo. kapag wala kang ibang mapasukan na trabaho at kailangan mong buhayin ang sarili mo, mambabarat ka talaga sa tugtog. marerealize mo na wala ka naman magagawa sa palakpak at di ka pwedeng mabuhay sa beer lang. kailangan magpabayad. pero tingin ko naman, wala naman aabot sa ganong antas ng buhay dito sa mga nagpopost sa forum na 'to eh, may pambayad pa kasi tayo ng internet natin eh.

Pwede naman mangyari ung ganyan eh. Kung naghihirap ka at inoffer ka na tumugtog for free syempre iisipin mo na may bayad naman "sana". ako naman, and i know some of you might look at me differently after this...but i don't play for free and i don't teach for free.

except:
1) i'm gonna be playing my kind of music
2) or i'm gonna be teaching a really close friend (eg: sa inuman, tambay tapos may gitara... etc) but never free 'formal' lessons

here's the way i look at it. pinaghirapan mo husayan yung craft mo, nag invest ka ng gamit para sa music mo. andaming pera at oras ang nagastos sa kaka practice...all this just to play for free? i don't think so...

isipin mo nalang, may party...yung decorations ba libre? hinde...yung pagkain ba libre? hinde... yung invitations ba libre? hinde...

bakit andaming nag aassume na yung banda libre?

sagot diyan, dahil alam ng mga promoter/organizer na passionate ang mga musikero at kating kating tumugtog...kaya anong nangyayari? exploited tayo...yan ang katotohanan diyan...

and besides, sige, sabihin na natin you're willing to pay for free...masaya tumugtog, no doubt...sabihin na natin libre ka tumugtog...paano na yung pamasahe mo papuntang gig? paano na yung gas mo? yung kakainin mo habang nagaantay sa set ninyo? yung pagod mo magligpit ng gamit ng madaling araw? paano yung studio time ninyo? lilibrehen mo pa ba ang mga organizer para sa mga yun? ang bait mo naman...

ang banda, form of entertainment yan...pag manonood ka ba ng sine libre lang? pag gusto mo makinig ng bagong cd, libre ba? miski pirated...libre ba? miski nasa bahay ka nga eh...internet, tv, radio, libre ba? hindi kahit papano binabayaran mo yang mga yan...bakit pag banda, libre?

exposure? yan ba ang dahilan? bakit mo gusto magpa exposed? para makilala diba? at para mabayaran din in the long run...so ang magiging tanong...gaano ka katagal willing tumugtog na walang bayad?

in the first place, kung ayaw sayo ng crowd...dapat isipin muna kung bakit ayaw...baka naman kulang pa talaga kayo sa practice (take note i'm not talking to anyone specific, by the way) . or baka mali venue na tinugtugan ninyo...baka metal kayo sabay tumutugtog kayo sa mga bar na pang burang...(talagang hindi kayo mababayaran niyan...baka kayo pa mabgayad). music = entertainment. baka hindi kayo entertaining kaya ayaw magbayad...

music=entertainment=product/service...ang music, parang sabon, tinapay, sapatos...etc etc....produkto yan...serbisyo yan...libre ba dapat? hinde...

pero kung gusto niyo tumugtog ng libre...wala namang makakapigil sa inyo eh...sayang nga lang yung talents ninyo...na eexploit ng mga bar at organizers...

and besides...you gotta get paid to support the maintenance of your instruments...and to pay for the gear you need.

i'm gonna stop my ranting right here with one final thought...maybe a solution...how do you get paid?

sagot: magpractice kayo ng matindi, pay your dues, tighten up your band...and basically, make your "show" worth every single centavo they pay you...and work on marketing yourselves more aggressively...wag kayo magpapa uto sa mga ganito:

bar: pwede ba kayo tumugtog dito? alang budget pero may libreng beer at pagkain (this is a sign the bar finds you "marketable"...they can make money off of you)

sagot mo (dapat): eh may beer at pagkain din naman kami sa bahay eh...

yun lang ....

my 4 cents (medyo mahaba eh...kaya hindi 2 cents) hwehwe corny...
