yup Gabe Ascalon is from Bacolod and I know him personally. He's my local guitar idol! And very generous in teaching what he knows.

feature=related <---- here's a video of Gabe playing

--------------

OT: Inviting everyone to drop by Moravia tomorrow night for the usual open jam on weekends. Nancy Brew tukar kamo tu bala liwat!

Te pano na kay ara kami kada Saturday sa Casino heheheheh sa Taberna kami. Wala Tawo ga tukar gyapon. Pang Papay lang hehehehe kag pang GAS  :lol:

Sir Jimi:

On Gabe Ascalon: He is a very close friend and some of my guitar mods are from him. Here's a picture taken last year during Working Stiff and friends gigged at Taberna:

(l-r) Joey Puyat, Kedy Sanchez, Gabe Ascalon, Riki Gonzales (Of Balooze), Ako, and Henry Katindig.

I still have to ask for permission though - I have a bad copy (pangit yung audio) of Destiny's live set (Gabe, Yuli Avante, Ed Jose, Tots Tolentino, Richie Quirino) and shows some very strong fusion material reminiscent of Mahavishnu, Luc Ponty and RTF.  :evil: Most of the tracks were written by Ed
Jose.

As a person? Wala gid hangin. Wala ga tikal, wala ga sugid.

Sir Shredisdead31:

Mismo, fridays na si Seņor Ed Malata sa Taberna: Think a mellowed down Tuck Andress with a mix of Joe Pass and Herb Ellis. Panalo. BTW, ano ngalan ni Tatay mo?

Some info be :-)

Sir Softkill:

Welcome! Damo ta di. Hehehehehe. POst be real name and/or band. Thanks.

And since namedropped si Seņor Gabe, the following Negrense stringers, IMHO, are worthy of mention:

JONALI RICOPUERTO: Van Halen + Vai = Ati  :-D

MARLON SIPE: Bluegrass, chicken Pickin' Heaven with a twisted Steve Morse sound (and Frankentele to boot)

PETER VINCO: Ay Mamaw. Mamaw. Supermamaw.

the late great EDDIE 'BAGA' VARGAS: More Chicken picking and Rockabilly madness.

BOY 'BAGA' VARGAS: He played Nosi or Not - he still brews creamy Clapton and Beck.

Sir please read the rules and regulations of this forum. Bawal ang text spelling dito. Baka pagalitan ka ng mga mods at ma banned ka.  :-)

Yup, let's be wary of that.  Kumpleto ang mga word ba, typed in full :-D

I'll see if he still has the same number. I'll PM you then.

Mismo! He (Gabe) also called me that morning, i was looking for cheap glass for my doors and he played the new strat over the phone. Was that a new one?

Mack, I wish I could visit Moravia again and just play at a more loose setting.  :-D

Post ko lang, mga seŅor. Our track is in  number two spot, but then...

Just a bit skeptical, though - how the ratings run. Text messages? Requests? Does anybody know?

@nancybrew: as far as I could remember, its a PAF humbucker with the tone control bypassed kung first position ang selector, i think the pots were at 500k for the PAF, 250k sa single coil middle and neck position.

@luvylouen: if its just setup and intonation, I know how to, and I can do it for free.

@softkill: welcome to GC!

Mismow  :-D Te, damo gid ta tuod eh!

BTW, I just got my compressor from Charles Lo and used it during the weekend gig.

Honestly, it was the first time I experienced the so called "breathing" tone, where both clean and driven guitar had a more defined tone. It was an Ibanez Japan old school compressor, but since na baha-an, gin try namon i salvage.

Unfortunately, it was beyond repair so we made an MXR Dynacomp clone instead.

It The clean tones were more defined (esp. the out of phase strat sound ala Sultans of Swing) and the driven sound had more sustain and body.

I'll see if we can post a video of the Taberna gig :-)
