If I were to buy a good clean amp for cheap, what should I get?  Silverface Fenders?

OR Music Man amps like these?

i would pick the Fender pero depende pa rin which amp model. kung SF Fender, make sure you pick the good ones. the DRs are pretty much like the BFs. but the bigger amps like SR and TR which have hum balance, pull boosts, master volume, etc. are hard sounding and harder still to modify to BF specs.

i'm reading a lot of good things with MM amps too but they're harder to come by.

Yes thy're almost identical, varies only on their output sections. Fender and musicman amps are in the league of their own, I like the MMs for jazz because of its warmth, maybe beacause the circuit is hybrid, solid state preamp, tube power amp.

here also is a rough typology that i noted dati:

Medium Power 6L6:
Tremolux, Vibrolux, Concert, Pro, Super Reverb, Bandmaster

High Power 6L6:
Twin Reverb, Vibrasonic Reverb, Showman Reverb, Super Six Reverb, Quad Reverb

Think of the line of BF fender amps like this.... Vibrolux Rev, Pro Rev., Super Rev., Twin Rev. Each step "up" is incrementally louder. Then mate the heads with their combo "brother." In same order, Tremolux, Bandmaster, Bassman, Showman.

Generally the transformer iron with these mates tracks equally. A little less closely, the plate voltages track as well. These two factors contribute the most to apparent volume of the amps.
