mas nagaganahan ka talaga tumugtog kapag may kasama ka. try practicing control and precision on your own. tapos kung na cocontrol mo na palo mo, controlled na yung sound and force. :-)

You have technique problem, itsdefinitely not your gear.

If you want bigger sound, learn the appropriate tuning and use the right size of stick. You dont hit harder to make the sound louder.

Master your rudiments at different dynamics, it will improve your control and hand technique faster.

If you always practice on pillow, its not impossible why you always break sticks & drumheads. Practice on your drums or pads.  :-)
So Be It.

tip: try to use/practice the rudiments along with your warm up exercises.pampa-relax ng "pitik".

Dont beat the drums, make love to it!

Pitik lang po pero may power. sigurado di mapupunit ung skins mo. pero kung mahilig kang pumalo with rim shots mapupudpod sticks mo. hahaha.. well madaming styles na pwedeng matutunan para mapatunog ng malakas and drums pero di naapektuhan yung quality ng tugtog mo and hndi bali and butas and sticks and drum heads mo. it usualy takes lot of time to practice. And one thing infuence mo rin ung sarili mo sa ibang genre like acid jazz or funk, etch. They play really loud but if take a look at thier drum style pitik lang pero malakas. sophistication kumbaga. hehehe peace out

That's strange, bro.  With traditional grip, the right hand uses a matched/overhand grip while the left hand uses the underhand grip.  You have it the other way around (unless you're a natural lefty).

Just a backgrounder...  Traditional grip was first used by military marching bands, where in during the old days, the snare drum was suspended by strap over a marching drummer's shoulders.  The drum was often positioned on the drummer's left side.  So, they figured out a gripping style for the left hand in order to play the drum with that position.

When the first drumsets were invented and utilized, the idea of using the traditional grip got stuck.  Up to this day, many drummers still use this.  Matched or traditional?  Whichever works best for you and for your drumming!

Look for the Grip Technique Thread here in Pinoydrums.  8-)

learn how to conserve energy without sacrificing your groove....

Adding to this, it's actually easier to play drums when you're relaxed and in control.  I learned this from experience.  Hindi kailangang maging gigil palagi kapag performances.  We'll sound better and more musical.  We'll be able to save sticks and drumheads.  Techs and bandmates and people around us will also feel better.  It has plenty of benefits.

i agree with sir dio, even if you're a "metal" drummer, hindi mo naman kailangang mang-gigil e. para sakin, mas mabilis nga ako kapag relaxed lang, esp. when it comes to double pedal. personally, i can groove better and have better speed, control, and feel when i'm chill. wala lang, just a little something i picked up from my lessons with sir jp. haha.

Yup they're right!!!

kung metal drummer ka dapat hindi ka gigil kc like what you've said "death" pa ung genre nyo, mostly blasts ang gamit mo so kylangan mo magsave ng energy para sa whole song and para sa next pa. Hand technique lang tlga problema cgro, play with your wrists  ... tama si sir drumster:

I switch between Matched Grip or Trad Grip, depends upon which genre I play... but when I play Matched Grip I use the American Grip coz I hold the stick french on the left and german on the right....
